Re: modric

Maybe he isn't that good.

I have not seen loads of him, but what I have seen I don't think he would be good enough for us.

I reckon he will be the new Darren Bent.

Re: modric

perhaps we're struggling to raise the £16.5m particularly as we need a striker to replace Crouch and, depending on your opinion, either one or two in other key positions.

If they play him in Jenas' position he'll look very good, but if they play him in Malbranque's he won't.

Re: modric

Certainly going to be an interesting summer, Spurs are pretty flush, if they get an extra £20-30m for Berbatov, they'll strengthen even more. Modric is absolute class and just the type of creative AMC they need.

If our boardroom debacle carries on past August, then I reckon Spurs will be a real threat to us next season.

Yossi isnt as good. Hes good but modric is in that world class bracket and would have fitted the bill perfectly for "the one last big name" were missing! shame, deals done now, but was interested as to hear why we didnt make a big effort to get him!

Modric isn't world class. He could struggle in England, he's tiny.

Re: modric

Modric's size IS a worry, to be fair.

I could see him being bullied out of some games.

Very incorrect. I would have loved to have seen us sign Modric, as I rate him very highly, but the fact you think he is "the one last big name" that would complete the team to me is astonishing.

Hopefully we will sign some players of Modric's calibre in the summer, but I think most people know that the areas that are key for us are left back, possibly right back, and most certainly on the flanks. Modric is a very talented hole player, who can do a job on the wings, but is far from what we need, essentially, even if he could play well out of position.

Still gutted we didn't sign him, though.

Re: modric

yeah thats right, messi is a bit too tiny, dont sign him! thats not a good reason why not to sign him? he looks amazin ive watched loads of him and he is really good, its a loss we havent got him! and as for arsenal, they will unearth somebody else probably, i think they will make a BIG signing this summer for once....

Re: modric

For the record I think he'll do well but if we are going to compare his build to anyone in the Premiership it has to be Benayoun.

Re: modric

good point, we do need more than one player of that calibre, i meant in an attacking sense, we do need to strengthen in other areas aswell, good point.

Arsenal had £70m ready for Wenger in January, they'll be just fine this summer

That was their bank balance, not all set aside for transfers.

They also have a very tight wage cap which will restrict them.

Re: modric

We'll see who's wrong at the end of the summer, I seriously doubt Arsenal will spend anything like that.

I have a few Arsenal mates telling me they are not in as good a financial situation as that article might suggest.

Re: modric

Yeah... They wouldn't break 'wage structure' for Flamini who has been absolutely dynamic with Cesc all season but they have £70m to spend?

Re: modric

True, although Edelman's claims were extravagant, (they have £25m available) however;

"Another £50m for player purchases will come soon from the residential development at Highbury Square"

Whether this come to fruition or not, who knows.

All of their youngsters are on relatively high wages. They have a very high wage bill. I think around 15 million greater than ours.
