No I didn't. It was a jokey comment on Ballague's reliability.

Re: Villa captain Barry told to sign for Liverpool - by his own team-mate
O'Neill said something along the lines of "Of course he's worth more than £10m. He plays for England."
So do Jermaine Jenas, Peter Crouch and Phil Neville, but they're barely worth £10m combined. |

Re: Villa captain Barry told to sign for Liverpool - by his own team-mate
Then straight swap for Carson it is Mr. O'Neill seeing that playing for England means you get to be worth over 10m.

Re: Villa captain Barry told to sign for Liverpool - by his own team-mate
Barry is Villa's captain his move has to be handled correctly and will end with the player coming out and requesting to leave
O'Neil knows already the outcome of all this and has to be seen to do everything he can to want to keep the player and not look like a selling club nothing happening here that you wouldnt expect to |

So Carson + Crouch = Barry + Young

Re: Villa captain Barry told to sign for Liverpool - by his own team-mate
It's a story about nothing really isn't it? It's a bloke serving his notice being asked to go a week early for not giving a fuck about the employer he's leaving. He was hardly even a Villa player anymore as it's blatantly obvious that at 6.00pm on Sunday he'd be seeing the team for the last time.
Sacked? Behave.

maybe not sacked but shamefully told to leave early. What he did was a disgrace too...

Ashley Young has only played twice for England. Shall we say £8m Martin, maybe £20m the pair?

It wasn't very polite but if he'd waited seven days it would have been:
"Former red says Barry needs to move for career". He's a Villa player in name only, after all. It's the bloke in his last week not bothering to do any work and chatting up birds instead of doing that photocopying, that's what it is.

I like Martin O'Niell but he really needs to pick his fights better; you can't go head-to-head if there's a hair-quality dissproportion of that magnitude. It's going to end in tears.

We'll meet halfway and the deal will go through within the next two weeks, I reckon.

If we do get Barry, will that be the end for Xabi?

If its not Id want Rafa´s head on a plate but I am prepared to wait till the beginning of the season before blowing a gasket

Re: Villa captain Barry told to sign for Liverpool - by his own team-mate
Don't think its a coincidence that Crouch all of a sudden has been valued at £15 million by Rafa. If Villa are going to overvalue Barry then Rafa will overvalue a player they probably want in exchange.
The truth is if Barry wants to leave its very difficult for Villa to do anything about it. They can keep him for another year and then lose him for probably half what they can get now. Personally i think Villa want Crouch and we'll end up swapping Crouch for Barry and giving Villa a few million. |

Re: Villa captain Barry told to sign for Liverpool - by his own team-mate
Just imagine in a (not so unimaginable parallel universe) that our two arsehole 50/50 owners had decided to ditch Rafa this summer.
One of their ever so helpful PR dweebs leaks it to the Echo that O'Neal is their #1 choice as his replacement, prompting us to make an official approach...and O’Neal’s reaction would be “I have loved my time at Villa and it’s a very difficult decision but, as Paddy Berger said to me, it’s Liverpool, no one turns down a chance like that” |

I can see your point but I think he's just trying to appease his own fans, the same as any manager would do in the same circumstances- you have to defend your own side. So what if he has a pop at us, he can join the long line of people doing exactly the same thing.
