while i dont think he was our best player over the 2 legs, i thought his passing was superb and was especially important in both the games.

i just don't think there is anyone else in our team who can hit the kind of 40-50 yard passes that xabi does on a consistent basis. being able to switch the point of attack with pinpoint accuracy tends to go unnoticed until its missing. in fairness masch looks like he's trying to add these types of passes to his game but it will take him some time. and i dont think we can say much about what happens after the pass as that is reliant on who is out on the wing to receive it most of the time. which in my opinion means if it wasn't babel it usually got wasted.

Re: Alonso: I am staying

That's great news if true. He's a class act both on and off the pitch and I love him to bits.

For his own carreer's sake though, he should move to Spain. He'd be phenomonal in a team like Barca.

If that 1 signing was Messi maybe!!! Gareth barry is average at best philip degan struggles to get a game for the swiss, we start signing this shit again and its backwards were going!

He's a good centre midfielder and an average left back IMO, not as good as Xabi.

I effin love Xabi me, but IF we have to sell to buy in the summer and we get offered a big wedge for him, I'd sell.

We can cover his loss, but we can't go on with the same few attacking options and hope to progress as a team/club.

No, we can't. And it would cost us a fortune.

Re: Alonso: I am staying

In my opinion he's still absolutely world class player maybe one of the best passer in the world so without any doubt he's right at Anfield together with Masch and Gerrad in the midfield. And I think he will stay

Xabi of year one is irreplacable, vital to LFC.
Xabi of the last two years we could cope without.

Do we risk losing circa £20m only for his lack of form to continue?

I would sell him anyway if we get a decent offer. People who go on about how good he is are deluding themselves. He hasn't been good in at least two seasons.

Re: Alonso: I am staying

He's been magnificent since Blackburn at home, in really good at form at the moment Xabi is. A petty that the rest of the season means bugger all.

I am over the moon.. swapping Alonso for Barry is akin to swapping Mascherano for Hargreaves.

Re: Alonso: I am staying

The only one claiming it as a swap are the papers and you Rash we might see both players at the club next year Barry can play at LB, LM aswell as CM would be perfect to have that many options from one player
