Jermaine Pennant

Sorted his life out off the pitch and now has one of the best attitudes of any player in the squad. I'd like him to stay as a squad player. Again, looked dangerous today.

Top man JJ.

You've always been a fan of his, I think he needs to prove himself against quality opponents!

He is an attacking player, he has scored 1 goal, that is not good enough, no matter how much he ruled today or how much he has improved as a player.

He´s ok in a 4-4-2 but in the system that Rafa now favours he dosent quite cut it

Re: Jermaine Pennant

I would like him to stay as a squad player. Unless we get 7m plus then keep him.

Also, Arsenal and Chelsea at home, not to mention AC Milan. They are quality opponents.

He is very much a confidence player, he has the ability to do what he did today, just not the right man management (no criticism against rafa).

Not good enough in my opinion. We should accept a decent offer for him in the summer.

They were flat mates for 5 years. Proper best mates so I guess they know eachother well plus Cole won't do a dirty tackle on him.

Is this like the last time you said he'd sorted his life out and had given up drinking? Then fivetimes told he drinks in the News Bar all the time.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

If he can perform like that on a regular basis he should be kept. Our squad in general lacks pace and his could be useful off the bench.

But I still have doubts over his ability to perform when all our big players are on the field as well. He strikes me as someone who likes to be a big fish in a small pond.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

Seems to play well when he's one of the bigger names on the team sheet. Seems to go into his shell when he's playing with the 'first choice' players.

The injury hasn't helped him this season as he he did really well towards the end of last season. I personally don't think he's good enough for the first team and like Crouch would command too good a fee for him to be sat on the bench week in week out.

He looked really good today. Which is why it really does my head in when he decides to "hide" in games. Today, he was looking for ball, and running at people.

Not just mindlessly going down the touchline, and then throwing in a cross just before the endline. He was cutting inside, taking on people, looking for a return. Really up for it, and it showed.

He and Crouchy looked to be the only 2 who were saying "pick me Rafa".

He blows hot and cold. If he was consistently at his best there would be no doubt.

He kept going, and didn't look disinterested, like some (to me). Problem is, neither Voronin or Yossi were doing much off him. Too many times, I saw Crouch going for the header, and Yossi or Voronin waiting to see where Crouch headed the ball, before making a move for it (needless to say, they wouldn't get near it). They needed to anticipate.

"Crouch WILL win the header. Its going to go goalwards, roughly. Ok, I'm going to start my run NOW"

Thats the thing with Crouch. If he's not playing with partners around him who complement him, then he can look ineffectual.

Agree. Pennant needs to realise that today's effort is the kind of thing he should be putting in all the time. When he starts the game, when comes on for the last 15 mins, in the Carling Cup. Whenever.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

Ok Pennent isn't great. But there are far worse players in the Chelsea/ManU teams. I don't think he should start every game, or even make the bench. But if he's happy with a part time role at the club, we're better off with him around.

He's got talent and his attitude seems spot on now. His comments today were good as well. I'd like to see him stay a bit longer.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

I'm sorry but if you decide that a player is worth the shirt based on one game against a bottom 3 side when all season he has been hit and miss when he was given the chance then we will be well fucked

He is a squad player no more at the level of our club
