Re: Jermaine Pennant

I almost get the feeling that Rafa likes to have a revolving door of players because it is some sort of weird logic of rotation in that the opposition don't know what we will do next.

History has proved though that the most sucessful sides have stability in the first team so I'd rather he kept the players we have now and not sign anyone rather than get his mandatory 5 players minimum in the summer.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

I used to have a theory about Jermaine Pennant.

Jermaine + Pennant = Shit.

However the lad has turned my opinion of him, his commitment and attitude have earned him a place in the squad for next season imo.

He is not player who will set the world alight week in week out, but he can do a job for us against the lesser teams when Rafa rests the big guns.

Rafa likes rotating the owners too. If the club is going to improve we need at least a new set every other season. Anything else and we will fall behind.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

Pennant is worth a place in the squad though he's not quite up to scratch for the first team. He is a decent player though, and is worth retaining, unless we have someone clearly better coming in and decide it is better to cash in on him and offset the cost.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

Pennant is a good squad player, but if we need to raise money to purchase better players to go straight into the 1st team then surely he will be one of the prime candidates to move on, particularly as we have Kuyt who can play in several different positions.

As I said, his improved attitude has been genuinely impressive of late and he's put in some decent performances. My point was an entirely pragmatic one as I'm not blown away by anyone I mentioned. I just think he's a relatively saleable asset and as such we should sell if that means getting a first team player. And as for this mythical winger, you're talking to the wrong person - I want to see attacking fullbacks with the budget we've got.

I'm not arguing that his goalscoring record overall has been great, but I do believe that all players can improve with the right coaching. He might get 5-10 goals a season with 30 starts, I reckon. Maybe he'll never be a 15 goal a season player, but then not many wingers are. He's more of a creative player - he makes things happen when he comes on the pitch and makes space for others. I think he'd flourish if played regularly in a 4-4-2.

I think DIC will be in by the summer and we will have money.

We have to push on next season and make a challenge. I dont think we are that short of what we need.

Call me deluded, I probably am.

I think you may be right. I fully expect us to be under new ownership by the summer too. I just hope the change in ownership comes sooner rather than later so that we don't miss out on any targets.

All he needs is to make better runs and stop fannying about by the halfway line. He can obviously shoot, but he never gets in the positions.

I'd be more than happy with that. Maybe I just can't get my head around having an £8m player on 40-odd grand a week wages who needs that degree of coaching on one of the basic aspects of forward play after, what, seven years as a professional. My biggest gripe has been pretty well answered though - his attitude is good and he seems determined and disciplined. That's something that has always been within his control and he's now showing he wants to stay at the club.

I totally agree. I'm not Yossi's biggest fan to be honest.

Holds on to the ball for too long, isn't strong enough and is extremely inconsistent.

I was really impressed with him early on in the season, but as time has gone by i've come to the realisation that he's not really good enough.

He wasn't good enough last summer and isn't good enough now. It's been obvious since day one. It's weird how people form their opinions on players on the back of Rafa's opinion and not on what they see. Sheep.
