Those players have all made mant more substitute appearances than Pennant as well. Perhaps we should also replace all those players with this mythical winger who scores 20 goals a season (I'm sure a lot of our fans have convinced themselves we're going to find ourselves a Christiano Ronaldo this summer. Well, we're not.)

Anyway, I hope Pennant stays and proves a lot of people wrong. He can be as valuable a squad player for us as Crouch next season.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

I never understand the huge clamour for a high turnover of players. if rafa has to sell to buy fair enough but if this isn't the case we really should be bringing one quality wide player to replace kewell. pennant and yossi are good enough for the squad. everyone wants there to be more consistancy with team selection well that isn't going to happen if there are two outstanding indivduals for every position, we need outstanding indivduals for the first team and then able back up for the purpose of resting or injures.

imho I think we should be bring in three players and that's it two for fullback on for wide midfield. I think we have to sell two of our strikers but only because it looks like rafa is going to settle on one striker up front.

So Kuyt/Babel become the backup stiker?

I don't know but I'm pretty sure it wont be a winger, rather a wide midfielder.

Eh? Do you mean the under 21s or something ? In any event i think Pennant has shown a great attitude this season, whether or not he's good enough is a seperate issue but he's certainly got his head down and battled on.

Somewhat doubtful, since he's 25.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

If were going to play 4-4-2 id keep him but he doesnt suit 4-2-3-1, personally he is a much much better player than Kuyt but there again he´s not Rafa´s bum chum.

Lets face it Kuyt has been Shite all season except for the last 6 games or so when he has been very good.

We´d probably get decent money for Pennant where we wouldnt get anything decent for Kuyt and that tells its only story

I dont suppose scoring/ being one of the best on the pitch against Milan, Arsenal and Chelsea would be useful to anyone, no.

Mate, you always know your stuff, but I can't believe you're seriously questioning my assertion that those other players are more reliable goal-scorers than Pennant. He's got 9 goals in his entire career - how could anyone possibly be wrong to question his lack of goals?

As I said, his improved attitude has been genuinely impressive of late and he's put in some decent performances. My point was an entirely pragmatic one as I'm not blown away by anyone I mentioned. I just think he's a relatively saleable asset and as such we should sell if that means getting a first team player. And as for this mythical winger, you're talking to the wrong person - I want to see attacking fullbacks with the budget we've got.

Re: Jermaine Pennant

Pennant is one of my favourite players. I've really warmed to him as he gets a lot of stick but his attitude has been exemplary. I enjoy watching him play, he's one of only a few players we have who can actually beat a man, and despite what a lot of people say I think his ability to pick people out from wide areas is excellent.

The lack of goals is a huge negative though, but I think that could be improved with the right kind of coaching and man management. It's not like he's a bad finisher, it's more that he hardly ever tries to shoot. So if Rafa could get in his ear and keep telling him to be more positive and to try to score, I think we could ssee that side of things improve. As it is, I get the impression Pennant is happy to be the provider and as long as he's doing that he's satisfied. He needs to become more selfish and also needs to get in the box more when the ball is on the other flank.

Whether Rafa can be bothered doing that, or whether he'd prefer to just cash in, we'll find out this summer I suppose.

I really hope he stays, but I can understand why people think he should be sold.

So who would you prefer to sell Kuyt or Pennant?

On second thoughts dont answer that question as you might have to ban half your posters

Re: Jermaine Pennant

If we didn't have to raise money from player sales i'd certainly keep him as he's different from our other 'wide' players. However I reckon we'd get decent money for him, money that could be used to buy genuine top class right sided player. If push comes to shove and someone of outstanding ability is available and ready to come fuck it i'd sell all 3 of kuyt, pennant and benayoun to finance the move.
