I'd say CEO's and Football team managers have more things to do than a Sporting director. I don't have a problem with whatever strategy a club has, I have a problem when ONE man spends a club money on how whim like GH did then and now he is doing now.. it means when you change a manager you change the players.

They are second in the league mate not 4th, they are in the semis of the CL and they have spend less NET than us too since Rafa has been here. How do you define shite? By that definition we must be dogs dirt lying in 4th. They are going through a bad patch, 10 of the squad are going through divorve and their best player is fucked but they are still thereabouts.

No fighting required, it's alright to differ.

Re: Modric...

So you'd rather have a man bringing in a group of players the manager doesn't want?? All a sporting director does is complicate matters. after all it is just another opinion clouding the issue - whose to say this so called director of football is a good judge of player? Terrible idea so stop fucking harking on about it.

I know, that's just my hangover talking. It gives me a twisted sense of humour.

I am aware they're not completely useless, but they should be playing so much better and it's as if they are a team of individuals, which is strange with Rijkaard at the helm. I think they're the new galacticos, they've bought and bought and bought attacking players and they can't seem to keep any of them happy.

Massive underachievers, and you won't be surprised to hear me say I believe it's at least partially because the manager isn't calling the shots about who he wants in his squad.

Who said I'd want players the managers don't want? Or is that something you made up on the spot?

I want players bought by committee, scouts, sporting director manager. It is about the club's strategy not just the managers. It works too...

Were you one of the ones who said we should never have foreign managers 15 years ago? I bet you were... admit it...

Chief Scouts and links to "fixers" in Italy who have produced fuck all for us so far. Macia is a scout not a sporting director.

I'd have Kenny Dalglish.

I've just looked it up and you are actually right. It was Amadeo Carboni that took Macia's job and ultimately caused Rafa to fuck off and take the job at Liverpool. I'd always thought Macia was working as a scout with Rafa at Valencia, but he was sporting director when Rafa arrived there and changed his role to a scout when Carboni came in and took the path which forced Valencia into relative oblivion. Thanks for helping me to learn something new. You can have some rep when I'm allowed to give it out again.

Re: Modric...

Think his current role has more to do with Parry then anything. That is the ability to organize contracts and transfers is not in his remit.

Re: Modric...

Committee's, fucking committee's. Now I know your having a laugh.

Nothing wrong with foreign managers or players either. Its the manager that should be backed to the hilt. Its he who picks the team, therefore it should be him who pickls the players he wants to buy. Nobody else. Yes have input from scouts and other coached but at the end of the day its the manager who has to get the best out of the players so he has to have players who he believes in and can trust.

They just get it done and announce very much in the old Liverpool way, you dont tend to see them in long drawn out transfers like we were with Alves for example
Only when they go after a manager is it played out in the media!

I do think it depends though in all seriousness. Bale, Chimbonda, Bent and Jenas were all known to be going to Spurs long before they actually signed so they didnt keep those deals under wraps. Its got as much to do with the club who is selling though I suppose.

Also we tend to deal with the Spanish market and they can be hard negociators.
