Euro 2008

Just realized that there's some summer football (besides the MLS..fnarr fnarr).

Quite enjoy an excuse to guzzle pints in the late morning/afternoon.

Anyone looking forward to Euro 2008 without the ingerlund side show?

(In all seriousness I can't handle another thread mentioning some player I've never heard of playing for some mid-table German/Swiss/Brazilian that we are immenently signing. Fucking summer season I do hate with a passion.)

I am looking forward to it, it helps tide you over until pre-season starts. Plus as mentioned, an excuse to get off work early and go the pub is always welcome, especially if you work flexi-time like I do!

Are people planning on following a team or just enjoying the football on offer?

I must admit I not much of an England fan so that doesn't really bother me that they are not there. I will be following Spain especially this year, just coz of our lads who should be there.

Re: Euro 2008

I'm looking forward to it more because England aren't there. I like watching football in the summer and having a few beers in the pub whilst the games are on. England usually ruin major tounaments for me with the media going mad over them and loads of the publi jumping on the bandwagon and putting silly flags on their cars.

I think Euro 2008 will be really good as well because it's quite open. Who do people think will win it?

Re: Euro 2008

I like a bit of footie on the telly over the summer but Internationals can never match the passion of club football for me.

I heard McClaren is punditting on the Beeb's Euro2008 coverage. Has the man no shame?

As mentioned, I'd like to see Spain win it just for the likes of Torres. It could be a really interesting tournament as there isn't much to choose between Germany, France, Italy, Holland, Spain etc.

Re: Euro 2008

I reckon Portugal, Czechs, Germany, Croatia,Sweden and Spain through and the worst overused moniker in football besides 'sea side minnows against Premiership giants' the proverbial group of death perhaps France and the Dutchies.

The Italians just don't seem to excel at this tournament which is nice as I'll be in Ottawa this summer and it's full of Camaro-driving flag waving Italian-wannabes who've never set foot in the Home Country their parents fled because their leadership couldn't pick the proper sides in the Wars.

Re: Euro 2008

Just had a look at the groups;

Group A
Czech Republic
Portugal
Switzerland
Turkey

Group B
Austria
Croatia
Germany
Poland

Group C
France
Italy
Holland
Romania

Group D
Greece
Russia
Spain
Sweden

I'll be supporting Spain for our players and I think they have a great chance of winning it as the tournament is really open for me. I did fancy Croatia before Eduardo got injured but I think they'll miss his goals now. Portugal will have a really good chance as well, and could be worth putting a tenner on.

Fuck the Swiss.

Can the Greeks meet the Turks?

And Austria- they'll be lucky to win a game I reckon.

Innsbruck- stick to skiing and Anchluss and opera.

(Steigl is a good beer, though)

Re: Euro 2008

I am looking forward to it, obviously a shame England aren't there.

My team is always Holland though (picked up the new shirt when I was there last week), but would love to see Spain (finally) do well at a tournament.

Re: Euro 2008

I hate an off season without a world cup or Euro it seems to last forever but when theres a big tournament on it flys by.
I think ill be hoping Spain or Netherlands win, I just hope Liverpool players play well.
As fun as it is to laugh at England's failure the tournament does lose a bit of media gloss and some drama along the way without them there.
