I'm sorely tempted to start a new thread. "A challenge to those who think that Pepe is in bed with Hicks".

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has admitted he would consider leaving Liverpool if coach Rafael Benitez departs in the summer, describing life at the club without the Spaniard as unimaginable.

Benitez’s future has been in doubt since it was revealed that meetings were held with former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann with a view to him replacing Benitez at the end of the season.

The situation worsened recently when the Spanish coach discovered that Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry was involved in what he believed were meetings held behind his back.

Since his arrival on Merseyside in 2003 Benitez has brought a considerable contingent of Spanish talent to Anfield.

Reina arrived in 2005 from Villarreal and enjoyed a good start to life in England when he starred in that season’s FA Cup final penalty shoot-out against West Ham.

And now he says while his allegiance is to Liverpool and not the coach, he would have to consider his options should Benitez go.

“I can’t imagine being at Liverpool without Rafael Benitez.” Reina told Eurosport.

“My contract is with Liverpool, not Rafa Benitez, but I owe a lot to Rafa because he was the one who trusted me at that moment, brought me to Liverpool and supported me, and of course the mutual affection is there. We will have to wait.

“Like I say, my contract is with Liverpool, but if the coach moves and there is the possibility of me joining him, if he coaches another team, of course I would think about that.”

Reina added that Benitez should remain at Anfield as he is building something big, proven by the fact that the club are fighting to play in their third Champions League final in four years.

“The Liverpool project is based upon the way of working of the coach,” he said.

“Rafa is building something that is growing each year, and the results are there. We will have reached three finals in four years if we are lucky against Chelsea, which is very impressive.

“Every year we have a better team and are more competitive.

“With an idea and philosophy of the game he has tried to find the best players. It is a project for the medium or long term.”
Fuck him then. Let him go. He is here to play for Liverpool Football Club not Rafa Benitez. I think he is a great keeper and wouldn't swap him for anybody but we can be doing without shit like that.

He should be grateful he is playing for us to be honest.

Agreed, Rafa was a major influence in bringing players like Reina, Torres and Mascherano to the club, it is benificial that they have a good relationship with him and don't want him to leave.

They are paid to be professionals and just get on with it. That is like say for instance Bruce Grobbelaar saying he wanted to leave after Paisley left because he wasnt the manager anymore as Paisley was the one who bought him. He is paid thousands a week to represent us and should be grateful for the priveledge that he is doing so. How many players leave us and go on to better things???? Hardly anybody

I understand that and yeah Rafa was a major influence but if players want to just bail out as such when the going may get a little tough for them then we can do without them. We want players who want to play for LFC AND the manager not just one or the other. I think Torres probably would have signed anyway due to the armband says he was a red....but yeah I get your point.

You're talking nonsense John. I don't know what you're doing now, but say, if you're working. Of course you would want to work with a superior that you like and knows that he trust you. You can't posibbly be working with someone you hate and do not trust you. Pepe is goalkeeper, which needs a lot of confidence and needed to be trusted with your life.

For your point that noone leaves Anfield and reached better things, who would want to leave Anfield except Owen? And I still believe if he plays a lot more, he would achieved greater things with Real.

Plus, Pepe didn't say if things get rough he'll leaves. His point is that he is very grateful to Rafa and believes that LFC should stick to him for 20 years, like Rafa would have wanted. Now, how's that for a professional?

For the record, nice on Pepe.

I thought it was significant when everyone was saying rafa had 'lost the players' (what like a set of keys or change down the back of the settee? ) the top players like pepe and torres publicly backed him with words and with performances on the pitch.

I love Liverpool so loing as Rafa is here. Reina plays for manager - not fans or club. That is not what this club is about. Have to say this comment sickens me. No man is bigger than the club.

But if a new manager comes in how would you KNOW you will hate and not trust him???? Until you give him a chance. I understand and admire his loyalty to Benitez but his first loyalty should be the club that pays his massive wageswhich I am sure are at least DOUBLE what he was on at his previous club Villarreal. You wouldn't change jobs everytime a manager leaves a company you just get on with it and give the new manager a chance no matter what line of work it is in even a low paid factory job or something. Pepe just needs to keep quiet to be honest and do what he is payed to do, play football and realize he is lucky he is playing for us and get on with it. As for Owen do you think he regrets leaving here.........Yes of course he does.

I think it is a very good thing for the player to have a strong attachment to the manager. Think about Shankly's players. They would have run through a brick wall for him. The same goes for Paisley, Kenny, Clough, Ferguson, Mourinho...

Much better that than meek indifference.

I am glad Reina has publically backed the manager, although I think he could have worded it better. I do admire his openness and honesty, but he should have just said something along the lines of that he had a huge debt to Rafa for propelling his career etc. He didn't have to say he would consider his future should Rafa go. That is a little disrespectful to the club and the fans.

I agree with JG - the player should sign for the club rather than the manager. I actually think it's a disgrace.
I love Rafa and Reina and wouldn't, by any means, want to see them leave but someone should have a word with Reina and point out that it's the club not Rafa that pays his wages

I take this as simply a man publicly backing his manager. I doubt he'd actually leave if Rafa left. He's simply being supportive.
