Promote Plessis and promote Nemeth to the first team squad and we will then need a striker I feel. Along with the wide player and full back. We don't need more 'squad players' when we already have the reserves I have just mentioned to step up to that role. We need two or three class players to go straight in to the first team.
Hypothetically, lets say Pennant, Alonso, Crouch. If you sell all of them and buy Eguren, you don't need a replacement for Crouch as Kuyt can go back to being a centre forward. You don't need a direct replacement for Pennant on the right as Eguren can play there. You have less of a need to replace Alonso as Eguren can play there. By bringing in one player for relative buttons that can play in 2 positions, it can free up even more money to buy even better players. It's not ideal but there is obvious logic to it if true. If we get rid of Voronin it will be on a free and I can see Insua being given his place.

Good work Dave.... you have assumed that said player is a good right winger as Pennant and a good a centre midfielder as Alonso.... or are you not bothered about squad quality?

I seen him play a couple of times and he looks pretty good - but it's of course impossible to compare the Swedish league, La Liga and the Premiership. Sweden is crap in all ways but in physique La Liga is technical and the PL is fast. Eguren dominated in Sweden and looked really fit, he also seem to have the technique to cope with the Spanish league - it'll be interesting to see if he manages to keep up with the English pace aswell.
I agree the swedish league is crap (and is why i don´t watch it) but it´s still not easy to make an impression as the pitches over here are a fuckin´g disgrace.

If he can leave for 2M then Rafa will be interested because he fits the bill, and has "the right mentality". He is very competitive.

Its still the same principle Rash. You have to give any new signing a chance before you destroy him.

Just because Voronin was shite (Not that I think he is, mind) doesn't mean you have a free pass to destroy the guy before he's even kicked a ball.

Where did I say as much? We have Lucas to go in where Alonso is playing. We can use the money to buy a much a better wide player than Pennant and one that is much better on the wings than Kuyt. How do you expect us to raise the money when we are skint? Rafa will have to wheel and deal, it's the only way to keep us competitive in the current climate. On the one hand, you will complain because we are skint and then on the other you will blame the manager because we can't afford to buy Quaresma. You can't have it both ways.

Re: Sebastián Eguren will be joining us in the summer

Totally agree with John Gallagher.
We've seen enough mediocre foreign players at this club, and if we are indeed skint then i'd rather give the lads in the reserves who are showing potential a crack before signing anymore.

And i've seen nothing in Lucas to suggest he's ready to become Xabi's permanent replacement should Alonso be sold this summer.

Re: Sebastián Eguren will be joining us in the summer

He won't sign for us. And, even if he does, he'll be great.

Nothing to worry about. It's a beautiful day here in southern Estonia; the skirts are getting shorter; I'm off for a game of snooker, followed by a few rounds of beer...

And Ronaldinho is signing...

I've been one of Xabi's biggest fans, I was hoping that he would be influential for us this season but he hasn't. Xabi on form is better than Lucas but Xabi's form has been largely poor now for a while and on a comparison basis, Lucas is playing better than Xabi is now.

I would assume that any money that is raised from the sale of Xabi would go towards the signing of Barry.

I'm not actually a big Xabi fan, as I think he's underperformed for a man of his talent in all but his first season here. But I think Lucas has had as many bad game's as he has good, and several time's he's looked well out of his depth.
He may well go on to be a bigger influence on the team than Xabi has managed to do be (after all, you don't win South American player of the year for nothing) but I can't see it happening anytime soon so i'd r
