We should be looking at promoting the likes of Plessis to the first team squad on a regular basis and maybe a couple of others like Nemeth for Voronin and get Voronin off the wage bill. Rash is right. Any money we do have should go on top class players who will improve the first 11 rather than shit young south americans.

I'm not sure how this equates to Plessis not getting more games in the first team. It sounds to me like this player can play a number of positions, meaning that we can chop the squad down in a couple of positions, freeing up more money to buy even better players.

Exactly John. If we have to shop in the bargain basement for mercenaries I'd rather we gave the youngsters a go and kept the players we have got. The team will improvement just by staying together...

There seems to be an obsession with buying 10 players every summer... we don't need to do that.

not worth speculating as I haven't seen this guy play but if we are indeed in for him because xabi is on the way out and he (new guy) plays central midfield I feel we would be better served gambling on our kids (lucas/plessis) and pouring the majority of our money into wide positions, but as I said this is speculation and I think its more likely we wont sign him than will.

He´s played his football for Hammarby here in Sweden for the last two seasons, he then joined the submarines and has been an integral part of their success this season. They won´t sell, and if they do, he won´t come easy.

If Alonso wants to leave then we can sell both Xabi and Pennant earning us around £15-20 million which we can spend on a right sided attacker and Lucas making the step up to replace Alonso.

Selling Carson, Crouch, Voronin and Riise should be earning us another £20-23 million which we can either spend on another striker or attacking midfielder/playermaker. You could even split it and get one of each.

We have a massive squad with youngsters coming through which should allow us to trim the first team down and promote some of the kids.

I have not seen this lad play so he may well turn out to be a Arbeloa but he also may turn out to be a Josemi.

I agree with John here. Ultimately ill back Rafa's judgement, but i'd much prefer to see some of the youngsters given promotion to the first team squad. I think we need quality not quantity now.

I think Rafa sometimes has other motives when buying these players for cut price fees. For example, Jan Kromkamp. Swapped with Josemi for around 2million. Sold 6months later for around 4.5m if i remember correctly. I think he sees some players as ways of gaining a fast increased return on the price paid for them. I can see something similar happening with Voronin, sold to Holland or Germany for a few million, little profit made.

We need to remember though, all speculation at the moment.
