At the end of the day they're both just shit teams, playing in a shit league in another country. Why not get behind fucking Livorno or Cagliari or someone like that as well?

It's just really, really weird.

Please explain yourselves. I'm not having a go, I just really don't understand it. So what's the score?
I went up to Parkhead for a pre-season game in the mid-90's and their fans were class with us. I really enjoyed it and felt a real affinity with them.

The there's the Hillsborough support they gave us...

My Mum and Dad are muck savage Catholics. That's a fair amount of hard-wired religious fervour, and it's difficult to shake it off.

Re: The Old Firm

I'm protestant, but there is no chance in hell I consider myself to have any kind of allegiance to Rangers. As you said they play in a shit league and are basically shite on the whole.

It's horrible going out on the night of an old firm match over here. All the scum of the day are about. Case and point; in my local for the last one before last nights, after the match me and a few friends head down for a drink. This usually decent place is full of the well-known scum from our town singing sectarian songs and basically acting the big dicks all night. One of them was telling me in the toilet that there is a gay guy in the bar, his exact words to me, "If you see me beating the shite out of this wee ginger guy, don't do nothing now...........or no actually come over and jump on his head with me".

So as I said I have no interest in the Old firm matches.

Well in theory we are, our connection to Celtic comes from the Hillsborough support they have shown us and YNWA.

We were set up by members of the Orange Lodge so in theory we are the Protestant team.

Re: The Old Firm

Religion* should not come into football. Thats not why you support a team. I know quite a few Celtic and a even a couple of Rangers fans, who really, have no interest what so ever infootball. They just like wearing their colours and being filled with hate.

* Not that many of the supporters actually practice the religion they claim to be. If they did they would be full of bitter hate for the other team.

Re: The Old Firm

Religion doesn't come into football. Blaming religion on the Celtic & Rangers rivalry and Northern Ireland is like quoting the idiots guide to understanding rivalry.

Celtic and Rangers hate each other because they are both based in Glasgow. If they were all catholic or all prodestant that wouldn't change. They would still be rivals.

And even at that, None of its to-do with religion. It just happens to be cut 50-50 by religion. Thats the fault of the plantation of English protestants in Celtic catholic countries. EG, in scotland and northern ireland.

And the Catholic ancesters even today want to be independant from Britain. Eg Celtic fans, and the prodestant plantation ancesters want to honour their history and remain part of Britian. Eg Rangers fans.

Which is why you will see Union Jacks in the rangers end and scottish flags in the Celtic. Its about soverignerity, not arguing over if mary got porked by Joseph or god.

Re: The Old Firm

Well it is explained.

If you plant 50,000 protestants in a catholic country, take their houses, their language their culture and force your own. Your gonna cause a rivalry, Its not because of your religion, Its because you've been an asshole.

You're being simplistic.

I look forward to your watered-down, "Geodemographics For Retards" take on the Israel/ Palestine situation.

Re: The Old Firm

None of that balls explains why now, in Northern Ireland, and possibly scotland, 99% of Celtic supporters are catholic. 99% of Rangers fans are protestants. There is fights and riots on the streets of NI after old firm games. Why is that. Thats got nothing to do with football. You wouldnt see Liverpool and United fans fighting in some other country over a result.

Re: The Old Firm

I remember being in the queue to The Kop in the early-mid 90s, some lad walked past the line in a Celtic coat and some fucking dickhead started punching him in the back of the head for it.

I have some family in Glasgow and they're all Rangers fans, but I love Celtic for their actions after Hillsborough and the support of their fans for the justice campaign.
