The Championship

Granted there are a lot of average teams in the division, but what an interesting conclusion to the season that's shaping up to be. It's looking like changing hands again at the top as West Brom go top and Hull City second and the bottom constantly changing, with Sheffield Wednesday's late equaliser last night dragging them out of the relegation zone.

I'd like Hull to go up, it would mean a lot to some of my friends and (boring fact of the day alert) it is the largest city in Europe never to have a top flight football team. The three teams going up will always struggle but Hull have a good chairman and good backing so might give it a bit of a fight. One of the main reasons they've done so well has been the form of the on loan (from the Mancs) Frazier Campbell who has scored plenty of goals and generally been ace by all accounts. They're desperate to keep hold of him but it looks like he's wanted back at Old Trafford.

Re: The Championship

I'd be made up if Hull went up. I lived there for a few years and was living there at the time when the tax man's bailiffs padlocked the gates to the training ground. They were hours away from going out of business, good to see them up where they are now. Six points nailed on for us too. They'd go straight down again but good on 'em.

Edit: Barmby, Okocha and Windass - all done great things there lately too.

Barmby hasn't been great this season apparently and Okocha took a while to settle in.

As you say, it's amazing to think that 6 (?) years ago they were hours away from slipping out of existence and now possibly a third promotion in those 6 years. The KC is a great stadium too for all you away trippers.

I rest my case. 26 seconds on the pitch. Bang. 57 years old too.

Fair comment about Jay Jay and Barmby - this year Barmby especially hasn't done much but he was instrumental in getting them into the Championship.

Aye he was, he's struggled with injury this season though. My dad knows his old man who is a top, top bloke.

Re: The Championship

I want Hull to get promoted simply because of their player Stuart Elliot (currently on load to Donny RoverS) who used to play for my hometown club Glentoran. And because it will make Karl happy.

The only Bristol City fan I've ever met is fit as fuck - and their name is a euphemism for tit - so, obviously, I want them promoted.

Re: The Championship

All the teams at the top will struggle if they get promoted. None of them have the resources to survive. Hope at least one does like but I can't see it.

Re: The Championship

I'm going for West Brom, Stoke and Watford to go up. I live with a Watford fan in my uni digs and I'd quite like them to go up for him.

I think West Brom are the only ones out of the promotion chasers who could realistically stay up if they were in the Premiership. They have a decent manager in Tony Mowbray, a sound infrastructure and some attacking players who could do an ok job in the Premiership in the likes of Gera, Koren and Bednar. I quite like the look of Ishmael Miller as well and think he could do alright in the Premiership as well. If they could make a few solid defensive signings, I could envisage them staying up.

Re: The Championship

Does anyone know if John Welsh is still at Hull?

Re: The Championship

I just hope for the harmony of my relationship that Southampton don't get relegated!

Beyond that I think West Brom deserve to go up, and I'm not too fussed about who the other two are.

I think he was doing well before breaking his leg in a challenge with Niel Bellor which put him out for ages.

Re: The Championship

I'd like Bristol City (ex home), Watford (cos Boothroyd never whinged once I dont think, and for Johnny Barnes) and Wolves (ex home).

That would make 4 W's in the Premiership. Some sort of record maybe?! How exciting.
