Fernando Torres admits he has been amazed at how quickly he has settled into English football and has now set his sights on establishing himself as an Anfield legend.
The Spanish ace has fired a magnificent 30 goals already this season and believes the warm welcome he has received from Reds supporters is one of the main reasons behind his success.

"You have to enjoy it when everything is fine," he said.

"I want people to always remember me here.

"It is what I was dreaming for. I expected it to take more time. Achieving all that in the first season is amazing.

"The team have been working very well and helped me a lot.

"Settling has been very easy and you can see it on the pitch. I have been helped with everything.

"Every player feels important thanks to the fans, from Pepe to the strikers because they sing their names and support them.

"People respect you a lot here. For example I was in a supermarket this morning and the fans were very calm, did not jump on me, they just congratulated me and asked me if they could take pictures with me.

"There are plenty of Everton fans in the streets but there are no problems.

"We have fans around the world and we can see it every time we play away.

"It is a different culture than in Spain, obviously and the rivalry with Manchester United and Liverpool is impressive."

Few players have made such an immediate impact on the Barclays Premier League in terms of goalscoring.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy is the man who currently holds the honour of scoring most goals in a first season with 23, but with Torees already on 22, he is on course to break that record.

"I am proud and want to beat every record I can,” he said. "I feel important in the team. The game against Chelsea gave me confidence to carry on.

"I have never scored 30 goals in a season in my career and I have made it here. It has been helped by the team’s style of football."

Having now played in both Spain and England, El Nino is well placed to join the debate regarding which league is Europe's best.

The Spain international believes La Liga is more competitive from top to bottom but is excited by the pace and passion of the Premier League and the patience shown to managers when things are not going to plan.

"The top four teams are great in England and in Spain, but I think that the mid-table ones are more competitive in La Liga," he said.

"In Spain we are more technical and slower. Here they are very dynamic and never stop.

"As far as The Premier League is concerned, there is a world between the top four and the other teams.

"The coaches are managers, they sign the contracts, control everything, from the team to the Academy to the working hours, they are at training with us, and watch the reserves as well.

"They have given more time than in Spain, for example you can see how Sir Alex Ferguson has been good and how many titles he has won."

Torres admits he would love to cap his first season at Liverpool with an appearance in the Champions League final.

The prospect of a meeting with Catalan giants Barcelona is one he favours ahead of what would be yet another all-English affair against Manchester United - but he insists the Reds must first focus all their efforts on beating Chelsea in the last four.

"Manchester United's level is very high," he said. "They have not lost many points in the league.

"They won all the big games they had to do in Europe without any problem so they are definitely the team to beat.

"People in Barcelona will see what they are made of. The game should be spectacular because they are both attacking sides.

"We want to play the final and facing Barca would be ideal. First of all we have to beat Chelsea and that is not going to be easy."

Torres - La Liga is the best

Three English teams have reached the semi-finals of this season's UEFA Champions League, but Torres insists that the Spanish top-flight is the best in Europe.


Torres joined Liverpool last summer from Atletico Madrid and has made a blistering start to life in England as he notched his 30th goal in all competitions in the Reds' 3-1 win over Blackburn on Sunday.


And Torres has hinted that he has found it easy to acclimatise to his career in England, when compared to his days in Spain.

"In England the top four are better than the ones in Spain, above all when it comes to consistency," Torres told Radio Marca.


"Apart from that, the rest of the teams in the Primera Liga are stronger as they have more quality."


Torres has also admitted that he is enjoying the patience afforded by English supporters.


"The fans aren't on top of you all the time here, they give you time, they get behind you but don't suffocate you. I'm very happy here," Torres added.
