Re: Away Game Tickets.

I was going home and away and in Europe about 6 years ago and remember the clamour for tickets and almost begging/stealing etc to get in. They had seperate fan cards for Europe in those days to ensure only genuine fans got tickets. Loads of my mates missed out too, at Barcelona away though there were loads who were not from England and hadn't gone to previous European games like my mates had... it pissed me off. However, without the day trippers and one off fans we would be skint, it's part of the game and if people are happy to pay and travel 1000's of miles to see our club we should be happy for the revenue.

I think you are underestimating quite a few people with that comment, as well as our great club's support and power. You'd probably put me in the above bracket as I'm from Norway. I've supported Liverpool since the day I first watched them on television back at my parents, think it was a league game back in 1982, I was eight years at the time, so hard to tell. It would go 5 or 6 weeks or even longer between the Reds being on television, so the wait was unbearable back then. Late eighties and early 90s the coverage became much better here, as several broadcasters came into the equation. I know it's hard to compare with you going home and away to most matches, but I can honestly say that between 1987 and now, from the matches possible to watch in the country I live, I've missed none. There were times during my own football career (semi-pro) where matches would collide, I'd always get someone with a big, fat satellite to tape them. Even now, aged 33, I plan my week after what time the Reds are on. That may not sound like a big deal to you, but with a wife in a full-time job and 2 kids it's not always a popular decision to ruin all saturday/sunday trips because daddy has to watch television.

I should also add that large parts of my income/loans has gone to watch the reds. I went 300 miles each year the Reds were playing friendlies in Oslo (even the one in Lillestrom). I've been to Anfield more than 10 times (1st time in 1991 v Leeds,- 0-0), as well as trips to Selhurst Park, St.Andrew's, Villa Park, Elland Road, Stamford Bridge, most often going alone (no fun in travelling with the Norwegian supporters club, talking Norwegian most of the time. If I go, I wanna feel the culture, language, the whole experience). Last visit was against Man United at Anfield in the 1-0 Rooney cellulaar throwing loss (a present from my brother/mother/father). As soon as I can save up enough money, I'm going over. Problem is, the only real chance I have of getting a ticket is the aforementioned touts and ticket agencies. I've felt like a crook many a time to get tickets, but if that's what it takes to watch us, I'll do it.

My only real regret is not being born in Liverpool, or having the balls to go there and study/work at one time in my life. Then again, I probably wouldn't have had my lovely wife and two great children, so can't really be too sorry.

Hope this brought a bit of sense to you, Atk, you donn't know how lucky you are to have the opportunity to go to as many matches as you do. I think I've read somewhere that you spend everything available on LFC, well, so have I done, and even if I'm living in another country, I think I can say that I get what LFC is about.

Like you could understand that theyd maybe favour OOTs for home games cos theyll spend lots of cash in Liverworld and all, but they get nothing out of sellin them away tickets.

The OOTs/Wools/Whoppers/Beauts whatever u wanna call them who get in the away end are clearly buying their tickets off travel companies/internet ticket agencies..etc, who get their tickets from touts.
These touts are more often not from local 90% I would say, and if not local then their source most certainly is.

Like Im dont have an agenda against anyone , but it needs to be said.

It was STHs who bought tickets to Porto away, and let most of the stand go empty just for some credit.
Not having that , it's obviously 100% the fault of OOTs , no doubt about that.

And ATK , what is it that makes you the "main supporter"?

Not necessarily; he might be a recent convert.

Fuck off Al!!

You"ve been on a wind up since last night, see the amount of arguements you"ve caused on here today. Some of the things you"ve said have been below the belt, and a bit close to the knuckle.

And there was me thinking you were a decent fella, due to our love of the Ger"s.

These people are clearly not the problem. Those that tout the tickets at inflated prices are. I go to plenty of away games and while you see a few familiar faces it is by no means the same core of 1-2000 fans. I will freely admit to occasionally sorting people out for tickets (at face value) and quite obviously I'm not the only one. The loyalty system, while an improvement on the old 'numbers' one, creates this. While you may not see these lads as 'good reds' in my experience they know the game and the songs and are just not in a position to get to as many matches as they'd like. I have some sympathy for your views on this if taken to extreme (witness the entire squad of a touring Canadian 'soccer' team in our end at OT this year) but in general they come across as insular, impractical and elitest.

To be able to go to as many matches as you want with your lad is a position of some priviledge and many would envy you, but to make these necessary criteria for supporters would be a death knell for the club commercially

Al, you're in a position of responsibility with the most important LFC supporters' group that's ever existed. You can't be posting that sort of thing any more mate, even if it's a wind-up.

I've got tears running down my face here, this thread is pure comedy gold, especially the "Bin Laden - nothing against muslims" comment.

Awesome, just awesome.
