Who is Luka Modric??

Modric happy with Reds talk

Sky Sports | Football | News | Modric happy with Reds talk

Luka Modric admits he is flattered at claims that Liverpool have made a move to sign him.

It was reported in England that Tottenham had made moves to try and land the highly-rated midfielder - who has also attracted attention from Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona in recent months.

But the Croat media, says it is not Tottenham, but Liverpool who have made a firm offer for the 22-year-old.

Modric will almost certainly depart Dinamo Zagreb in the summer and the battle to sign him is firmly on, with Liverpool reported to be heading the queue.

Dinamo want around £18million for their prized asset, who is rated as one of the most impressive young midfielders in world football.

At just 22 - Modric is already a lynch-pin of the Croatian national side who comfortably dispatched of England in qualifying for Euro 2008.

Flattered

Modric has now admitted that he is delighted that Liverpool could be interested in signing him.

"I don't wish to discuss possible transfers, but if Liverpool really want me, then this is fantastic and I am truly honoured," he told Vecernji list.

"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match against strong Arsenal"

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

Modric is a very good player. Can play in Gerrards role behind Torres or can play in Kuyts role as an attacking right sided player.

Chelsea have been linked with him for a long time and in all fairness i do expect him to go there but if we did sign him it would be a very good signing in my opinion.

I corrected his quote a bit at the end...but clearly the lad know his football. Sign him up.

The prices normally quoted for him have always been in the region of £20m+ - not sure whether we'd have that?

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

Encouraging quotes even though I've never seen him play. Can anyone enlighten me as to what kind of player he is (apart from link player).

Is he quick, a good dribler or whatever?

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

I suppose Chelsea are favourites to get him and our name may have purely been thrown in there to get them to take action.

If Rafa is interested in signing the lad i would imagine its for the right of attack where Kuyt plays and where Modric can play.

It would be tempting to try Modric behind Torres and Gerrard playing in Kuyts role, a role in which i think Gerrard would excel in.

Wouldnt say he is fast but he is able to use both feet and has a very good shot on him.

Just done a quick google on him to try and find some more out and its interesting to see that his current club Zagreb play in a 4-2-3-1 formation so he would be able to slot in our team already knowing that formation well.

Thanks. Of course it's good if we're wooing Europes top talent as this lad seems to be, but what I'd really like to see signed this summer as first priority is a fast winger with great dribbling skills.

But a real number 10 with Gerrard taking over Xabis place in the 4-2-3-1 would be great as well. Then we'd still need the great right winger though, unless Gerrard was to play there, as you suggest.

As far as I know, Modric plays on the left of the three both for Zagreb and Croatia.

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

Modric can play right, left or through the centre. He's two-footed, a fantastic passer of the ball, and has great vision and positioning off the ball. He's also got good stamina, is aggressive and will stand up for himself, and can hit a hard shot, although he's not the most physical looking player and is a bit of a shortarse.
