Re: Who is Luka Modric??

Well i've never seen him play and i'm definitely not gonna judge him on from what i've seen on youtube. But he sounds promising from what i'm reading on here. If he can play in gerrards role as a no.10 that would be even better as that would mean gerrard can play further back in alonso's role and our midfield would be more dynamic.

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

He can play anywhere across the three behind the central striker, meaning we have options.

EG, home games Torres with Babel, Modric, Gerrard behind in whatever places and away or when you need hard work you bring Dirk in.

The kid is class, if we dont get him we will be sorry. He's also ace at freekicks and corners, something we lack at the minute im sure you'll agree.

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

He's hardly Goran Gnot though is he, think we will try and sign him again?

I reckon he won't be too much more then 15million euro and at 19 that's a bargain

Agreed, thats why we have to get in early in these situations. I wont hold my breath though with all the bollocks which is happening at the minute.

Nah, Kranjar did fine -- actually pretty damn fine for Portsmouth. Just because you didn't see him regularly in the headlines he was crap.

We'd do fine with Kranjar too. Competent, hard working, and without the hype.

The signing I'd like to see from eastern europe is Arshavin though.

If Rafa is interested in signing the lad i would imagine its for the right of attack where Kuyt plays and where Modric can play.

It would be tempting to try Modric behind Torres and Gerrard playing in Kuyts role, a role in which i think Gerrard would excel in.
Agree totally with that. I think we will sign this bloke but I do have concerns that that Xabi is going

Modric is a great player and would be a terrific addition, but we have absolutely no chance of signing him and other top players whilst Hicks and Gillette remain in power.

Which is why we failed to secure the signing of Mascherano for £18m, and also failed to sign the most expensive defender in our history.

That sounds alright (even though I've never heard of lad and am only going by hype on here), I just don't wanna see Gerrard drop back next to Mascherano like some of ya's are saying. He's wasted there imo.

Well based on recent events, who is going to sanction the deal and who is to say that Rafa will still be here in the summer?

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

Didn't the loan include around 50m (I think) working capital, surely there is some transfer funds in that, along with the money we raise from player sales.

Re: Who is Luka Modric??

I think we have a good chance of getting him.

Now Rafa nearly has the squad he wants he won't have to stretch his money as far as before so he can afford "proper" first team players.

We can recoup most of what we pay for him witht the amount of drift wood we can flog.

After a couple of sacrifices to the football gods we will have a bit more cash after the CL!

Cash has already been set aside for transfers after the refinancing.

Now the sticky bit.
Who the fuck is going to sanction the transfers now civil war has broke out in the boardroom?
I can see that fat cunt vetoing transfers if he thinks Rafa is with GG and Parry.
I honestly think Rafa is playing this one well. As far as I know he hasn't publically sided with either of them as he knows the consequences.
This type of wrangle goes on a lot in Spanish football when they have elections for club president and some coaching staff or players may side with a particular candidate. Strange that in this boardroom battle the one with the most experience in this situation is the man one level down from them in terms of hierachy.

The £350m refinancing package with the Royal Bank of Scotland and Wichovia puts £105m of debt directly onto Liverpool FC, with £60m committed for the first stage of work on the new stadium and the rest for transfers and normal capital workings.

LFC will service the debt of approx. £200m, and Gillett and Hicks are only on standby if the club fails to produce the necessary profits. Essentially, LFC pays for the loan used to buy the club with potentially repayments of around £30m a year,
