Extra time

If it finishes 1-1 after 90 mins and we head into extra time and both us and Arsenal score in extra time making it 2-2 on teh night and 3-3 in total, do Arsenal go through on the away goal, or does extra time revert to normal no away goals and we go to pens? I remember shitting it in the stadium during the Chelsea game last year and not knowing, and I never got the answer. I assume away goals don't count in extra time, but I'd rather know this time if we end up there.

Away goals count regardless.

Knockout rounds
A draw determines who each of the 16 clubs will play in the first knockout stage, with ties decided over two matches on a home and away basis. The club that scores the greater aggregate of goals advances, or in the event of both teams scoring the same number of goals, the team which scores more away goals. If the away-goals rule proves inconclusive, extra time of two periods of 15 minutes is played after the second match. If during extra time both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (ie the visiting team advances). If no goals are scored during extra time, the winner is decided by penalty kicks. The two teams that advance from the knock-out round contest the final, held as a single match in May.

Re: Extra time

Always thought this was an unfair rule because it gives the away team an extra 30 minutes to score an away goal..

Re: Extra time

We'll just have to beat them without worrying about away goals. Early goal for us as we come out all guns blazing. They come looking for an equaliser and as the game wears on we score another and they score one. We win 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate.

Away goals shouldn't count in extra time. Daft rule.

Re: Extra time

The amount of lads that don't understand the away goals rule is frightening. Every year its the same. Not as bad I suppose as some idiots saying away goals count double though.

We get an extra 30 mins playing at home at the crucial time in the tie, they get an extra 30 mins of possible away goals. Its a fair as it could possibly be.

I'd rather have the extra half hour to score an away goal. Say they score deep into extra time, what use is home advantage then?

Re: Extra time

What if it's one all at full time and then in extra time we take the lead. With two minutes to go Adebayour has an open goal in front of The Kop but misses? I'd like that, in a sadistic kind of way.

But if we fail to score until deep into extra time with the same 'home advantage', whose fault is that?

Them are the rules mate. They were defined before the tournament started.

We won a UEFA cup with an own golden goal.
