What is never mentioned about Villa is that he works his bollocks off all match, defenders never get a minutes peace. If he is available we should definitely be in for him.

Re: David Villa goal from last night

great goal but surely we need top class wingers not more strikers. torres is better than villa anyhow. we must keep crouchy as he is a big beaut with lovely feet, kuyt will stay because he is rafas fav and as it looks like rafa doesn't fancy a front 2 so it would be a little silly of him to spend big on another. He should buy aimar or ronaldinho or what about that little nasri chap from marseille to create havoc, play gerrard on the right babel on the left, mt t up the middle. fuckin world beaters!
on a seperate note it was great seeing cisse last night. he still has lightning pace, such a shame he never cut the mustard for us.

What? Um... We've a formation that the players are comfortable and it's sans-wingers. Try to stay with us, now.

Re: David Villa goal from last night

rafa could do a lot worse than bringing in villa and going for a straight 4-4-2.
course that would also entail dropping babel buying two wingers and dropping alonso as well.

Do people honestly think Rafa is going to stick with 4-5-1 forever now?

Don't be silly, He's be stupid to stick to it.

It only works against inferior teams. The top teams don't struggle with it at all.

Not sure whether you're being sarcastic but
the smaller teams would eventually figure it out aswell.

Re: David Villa goal from last night

We should sign Villa if he is available. He is better than any of our other strikers bar Torres. Should Nando get injured we would have a big drop in effectiveness in this system, because none of the other strikers offer the pace and goal threat Nando does. Villa would be a great replacement for Nando in a 4-2-3-1.

Obviously he is way too good/expensive to be a mere replacement. He can also play in an orthodox front pairing, so that gives us more options.

What I'm not sure about is whether Villa can play in one of the three behind Nando in a 4-2-3-1. If he can do this then we're in business. That's the sort of knowledge Rafa and his scouts woud have, whereas on a fan forum we're speculating really.

That's right. It's a defensive minded 4-5-1... One striker doing all the work and doing all the attacking and whatnot.

We've shown some of our best attacking football of the season with this formation and if he buys player who suit these 'forward' roles(including at least one attack minded fullback) then it will be even better.

Re: David Villa goal from last night

So which of Villa and Torres are going to drop deep?

We don't need a £25m understudy to Torres and vice versa...

We need a support striker.. no thanks to Villa.
