I wouldn't say pisses over him Dave, I'd say Bentley is an upgrade, just like Kuyt was an upgrade on Morientes (in this league). Neither ideal.

We are talking about catching United here, not consolidating 4th and 3rd.

If we sign him, fair enough. He would certainly improve our right hand side and set pieces but whether he is of the calabre needed to challenge is another question.

I reckon Pennant's quicker. Anytime I see Bentley he seems to be treading water!

As for Bentley, he likes David Cameron so obviously a bit of a tit. I dont think we will sign him though.
Final nail in the coffin. Bring back Nunez, the politically sensible legend.

I think he would be a very good addition, but we would still need to sign a "match winner" who could get 12-15 league goals a season and add creativity as well.

D'yer reckon? Pennant has no pace whatsoever. He's slow in thought too, which Bentley isn't. Either way, neither of them are quick but I still think Bentley has more to his game. We really need a player that can deliver set pieces too.

I can agree on that point. Bentley plus a 'star' would be very good indeed.

The one thing I do like about Bentley, and let me be clear, I have little opinion of him as I haven't seen a lot of him, is that when I have seen him, he seems to cross with conviction and he seems to have speed of thought. Pennant, more often than not, floats his crosses and they are easy to deal with. I'm not saying Bentley is ideal, Rash but within the current climate at Anfield, I think we have to be realistic in our demands.

I thought Gerrard's corners against Everton were fucking class. He's really inconsistent with them though.

You'd imagine that we'd be fine with set pieces considering we have Gerrard and Alonso but we do fail to deliver quite often with them.

If I have to watch Aurelio hit another free kick, I might scream as well!

As for Bentley/Pennant, both not good enough to be regular starters for us.

Obviously it depends on how much money we have to spend, but I would be content with signing Bentley and someone like Sergio Agüero, Diego Ribas da Cunha or Luis Suárez.

That is spot on and it makes it very difficult to get power when heading the ball. Pennant's crossing is generally quite accurate but he does tend to float the ball over rather than whip it in with pace and conviction.

Agree about the "floating" crosses which are "safe" crosses with no conviction and also agree about the "current climate".... if money is tight then Bentley will do.. otherwise we really do need better than that.

People saying that want Luis Suárez or Augero are living in dream land if he current climate continues.

Why would it? Spending 6 - 8m on Bentley would be pointless if you're gonna buy a big money 'star' to play on the right on Gerrard and Babel, especially when we've already got Kuyt.

We'd be better saving Bentley's transfer fee and wages to spend on a better class of full back/reserve striker.

I know. Money permitting though, if we buy a top draw player and Bentley thats great because Bentley as the big signing isn't great but he would be a nice addition to the squad.

Nothing beats the splenetic rage that spills from me when the ball gets squared to Riise for him to hit the wall. We must be the worst team at set pieces in the entire league. It's a shame because if done correctly they can win you a number of games.

I'd say 70% of games in the premiership are decided by setplays

Riise hitting the wall or skying is number 1 in my fits of rage. I can't believe we continue to trust him to shoot...

Probably around 120 shots since Riise scored a goal now.
