Javier Mascherano faces a huge £100,000 fine from the FA

Javier Mascherano faces a huge £100,000 fine from the FA
By David Maddock 25/03/2008

Javier Mascherano is facing a £100,000 fine despite insisting he still has no idea why he was dismissed at Old Trafford.

The Liverpool midfielder is bracing himself for an FA inquiry into his incensed reaction to being sent off for dissent by Steve Bennett on Sunday.

The Argentine refused initially to leave the pitch and eventually had to be escorted down the tunnel by team-mate Peter Crouch after the intervention of manager Rafa Benitez.

Mascherano faces the prospect of having a one-match ban for two yellow cards increased to at least three for bringing the game into disrepute. And he will also be given a huge fine by the FA, who are seeking to make a statement on what they see as an out-of-control situation regarding respect from players to officials.

But it is the mandatory club fine for the dismissal that could hurt Mascherano the most, with club of ficials considering handing out the maximum allowed under PFA rules of two weeks' wages - which would amount to more than £100,000.

Liverpool are still seething at what they see as officious and arrogant refereeing from Bennett. They point to the fact he has not booked anyone else for a similar offence.

Mascherano was still pleading his innocence last night, as he flew to Egypt to join up with the Argentina squad. "I do not know why I was sent of f. The referee did not tell me, and I still don't know why," he said.
For fucks sake, what a fucking shambles this has become. I was beginning to calm down this afternoon, but this shit got me all wound up again. If they go through with this shit something must be done.

We need to take legal action showing previous precedents. A good start would be the Man United keeper who recently refused to leave the field.

The funniest part of it is Steven Bennett brought the game into disrepute, not Javier.

Has Bennett made any comments at all since Sunday? I'd like to know what his excuse was.

If Mascherano gets fined £100k by the FA, I'd like to see someone take that out on Steve Bennett's house and twatmobile.

True. They are only speculations, but there is no smoke without fire and the way things have been going the last week it wouldn't surprise me.

Especially when the headline is that the FA will fine him, but the article says its the club that will.

Re: Javier Mascherano faces a huge £100,000 fine from the FA

I don't have too much sympathy with Mascherano for the sending off because it was definitely on the cards and he has nobody to blame but himself. Obviously the referee is a bent twat and could have dealt with it much better, but as I say, Javier made the mistake himself.

I don't believe this story about such a whopping fine but if that's true then it's an utter disgrace. Yes, send him off for constant haranging but no way should there be such a massive fine attached.

Re: Javier Mascherano faces a huge £100,000 fine from the FA

No surprise really. That's been written down in the guidance to the players published before the start of the season.

Players not leaving the Field of Play immediately when they are sent off

A player who is reported to have failed to leave the field IMMEDIATELY on being informed by the Referee and/or shown the Red Card will be considered to be in breach of FA Rule E3. This is by virtue of his actions being considered improper conduct for which he will be liable to a minimum sanction of a suspension of 2 matches and a fine equivalent to one week’s net salary. This sanction will apply notwithstanding the outcome of any appeal by the player under the wrongful dismissal procedure.

Ah but Rimmer Directive 271 states just as clearly, "No chance you bald bastard."

Re: Javier Mascherano faces a huge £100,000 fine from the FA

How long did it take for Martin Taylor to go off against Arsenal?

Why were Mikel and Terry allowed to practically grab the card out of the ref's hand when the former was sent off (at Old Trafford) earlier in the season?

Spot on Brownie.

Id of liked to see the bald nugget go up to either Gerrard or Rafa and say have a word, he has one more chance, that way he defuses it and the spectacle isnt ruined but it was at Old Trafford so im not surpised.

EL jefe had it coming but I dont blame him for losing it, the refs are a joke and it goes both ways. The refs will only be respected by the players when they are good refs.

Ex players is the way to go.
