Ever get bad feelings before a game starts?
I often get a hunch about how the game was going to go before a ball is kicked... today I was pissed off when Riise warmly shook Ronaldo's hand before the game like long lost chums... I hated Gerrard enjoying a joke with Rooney and then shaking Scholes' hand out of "respect"....
Can't that be saved for after the game away from us fans?
Not having a go but it's just little things. I remember Roy Keane and before him Greame Souness.... neer giving an inch before a game especially Derby games.

I was actually confident we would get something today. Sadly, today just proved that we are still a long way short.

Nah I knew it would go exactly the way it did, the derby will go the same way too, one of ours will lose their heads (Carra or Gerrard probably) and we'll go down in flames.

There is no way we will lose the Derby... so long as we don't chum up to them before the game

Nope we'll win the derby. We're quite capable of beating shite like the Bloos, we just can't seem to step up to the challenge of United, Chelsea and, to a slightly lesser extent, Arsenal (I only say 'lesser' for Arsenal becuase we've actually managed to put a few goals past them!)

Head to head in the league, we've actually been marginally superior to Chelsea over the past two seasons (yeah, there's only one goal in it but it's true all the same). It's only Man Utd we are absolute failures against.

Re: Ever get bad feelings before a game starts?
I heard about what gerrard did before the game. Now I dont want the lad to come in for anymore stick for what he has done but he really doesnt help himself does he. Its the mindset which i can never understand - he should be fired up for a game like today but everything he did stunk of couldnt care less. Maybe its just this laid back persona he has, fair enough. But that is is not the attitude of a captain! Where's that scouse mentality lad for fucks sake?!!!

I really respect captains like Neville & Keane. Steely eyed before the games, in the zone, not fucking around being chummy with the opposition players. Rafa should ban that sort of thing, make it worth a fortnight's wages if it happens in future.

Re: Ever get bad feelings before a game starts?
What worries me is we used outplay Manu, ok we still lost but we matched them in the middle and in large parts dominated possession. This started to change last year at OT when they outplayed us and has now got to the point that we appear timid and unsure of ourselves against them.
I don't know if those jammy 1-0 wins they had caused this or not but Rafa needs to address this. Next time we play them we should go for it from the start ala Juventus at Anfield.
When we settled in the second half and just tried to play they looked very suspect. Wish we just settled down at the start and played our football with a little confidence.

Re: Ever get bad feelings before a game starts?
All this shit is peripheral, in my opinion. The bottom line is that, unpalatable as it may be to think it, we were beaten by a vastly superior side. We have severe short-comings at the level we aspire to succeed at and yesterday exposed them again after a short period of much improved form and (ultimately fragile) confidence. Let's hope we can quickly put it behind us because the stakes remain incredibly high between now and the end of the season.

Yesterday showed us all our shortcomings and where we need to replace players. We certainly don't seem to have a mental and physical toughness required to win at OT. I'll probably get slaughtered for this but I feel we lack a John Terry type of leader in our side. Although they hung on for a result Pompey showed how to go about things at OT - get into them early on and unsettle them.

I think Mascherano will be that man.
He's only 23, lest we forget.

I don't. I think he's got a reckless streak and can occasionally lack self-control. It's one reason why, before the game, I said he might get sent off yesterday. Carra is the best option for captain currently at the club.

Roy Keane to a tee. The best captain United have ever had.
