Ressies: LFC vs. FK Slavija Sarajevo

Nicked this excellent report from RAWK's 20.000+ poster "4pool"... Great read.
Match report: Liverpool FC vs. FK Slavija Sarajevo, Bosnia/Herzegovina

Forgive me if I get some names wrong but the programme just listed the teams and not the squad by numbers and i tried to write them down as quick as I could.

Ours was the last Super Group U19's match of the day. Tom Jr. and Alex Hicks along with a dignitary from Bosnia presented the match ball to the Mexican referee to start the match after the National Anthems were played.

We started with:
------------#13 Gulacsi
#2 Darby -Captain, 5 Huth, 6 Kelly, 3 Irwin ??
#12 Flynn, 9 Spearing, 4 Insua, 11 Putterill
#10 Bruna, 16 Lindfield ??

I was lucky enough to catch the lads pregame standing by the railing as the opening ceremonies were underway. Had a brief chat with them and gave them todays results. They knew Everton had lost but not the other scores. They also had eyes for the local female talent walking around. Anyway made my way down pitch side and hung up some flags and a YNWA scarve.

Match started and Liverpool took control early. Most of the play was down the left hand side. Putterrill generally getting the better of their left back. A few crosses went wanting as the Reds pressed for an early goal. Which was delivered in the 10th minute by Lindfield with a fine strike LFC 1-0 . Slavija then tried to attack but Insua was at the heart of stopping anything before it getting to the back four. Shots from Spearing in the 14th minute which just went over, then Insua from a corner a header which the keeper parried only for Insua to hit the bar with the rebound. Putterill was ever so lively and went just over with a rasping volley in the 20th minute. Spearing was booked in the 29th minute for a foul which would have never been called in the Premier League but that is International refs for you. But Jay made the keeper punch away his shot from just outside the box in the 30th minute. 32nd saw Lindfield get the ball at his feet with just the keeper to beat after a scramble in the box but by the time he shot, Slavija's defender slid in to block. Spearing then went over with another shot from outside the box. Putterill delivered another fine cross only for their keeper to gather with Lindfield closing in. #3 sent in a fine cross in the 36th minute and LFC got the reward with a fine goal by Spearing. LFC 2-0. Two minutes later Flynn tried a cheeky chip which hit the roof of the net. Spearing then sent Bruna in only for him to waste his effort. As with any Liverpool side the Ref gave Slavija a free kick for a shoulder challenge just outside the box to the right of the keeper. Soft call but we were to pay for it. #10 for Slavija took the freekick and the ball squirmed into the very near post with Gulasci diving to stop it but to no avail. LFC 2-1 Slavija. The match then proceeded to close out the first half without further incident.

First half overall saw us dominte possession with Slavija trying to counter attack with very little success. We played some good footy along the ground and it would only be a matter of time before we scored more.
HT Liverpool 2-1 Slavija.

Second half started with Liverpool once again showing their dominance. Bruna blazed over after some good quick passing which saw him with the goal at his mercy in the 47th minute. In the 55th Spearing tries to chip the keeper after getting behind their defense only for the keeper to block. A minute later we were awarded a free kick outside the box to the keepers right and Bruna curled a marvelous effort into the top near corner. LFC 3-1 56th. Now it became one way traffic as we looked to build on our lead. Spearing brings out a punch save from their keeper and shortly from that Bruna chips the keeper, roof of the net 58th. 60th minute saw #15 MacKay Steven on for Lindfield and #14 Crowther on for Spearing. Two minutes later Putterill scores with a good indivdual run down the middle after a sublime ball from Insua to slot home. LFC 4-1. Huth was then subbed for Ayala and Darby went off for #8. We continued to dominate play and in the 68th minute Flynn scored to make it 5-1. Then in the 76th Purtterill made it 6-1 with a fine individual run and tight angle shot into the roof of the net. Two minutes later Bruna playing in the strikers role was put in again by Insua and he easily picked his spot to make it 7-1. A couple more chances go wide but the lads were taking thier foot off the gas as they play again in 19 hours time, Monday at 4pm V Tigres from Monterrey Mexico who won 2-1 earlier and should be their toughest match in the group stages.

So FT score Liverpool FC 7-1 FK Slavija

Best players on the pitch were Putterill, Insua, Bruna, Spearing. Motm being Putterill.

None of our lads were troubled during the match Although Bruna took a knock late on and limped off didn't look serious as he wanted to play on but the coaching staff waved him off. A comprehensive performance.

A warmdown by the lads had them come by us as we were packing up the flags., Told them i'd catch the at least the second half tommorrow and the full match wednesday. Hopefully i'll get the numbers and the names put together off one of the coaches if I got some wrong.

Nice job mate. I was there for the game too. They looked very comfortable but to be honest they didn't have much competition. Tigres (this afternoon) might be a different proposition but looking at the team we've sent I reckon they should be able to beat anyone in this competition and win it.

I don't think there were may Liverpool fans there - Tom Hicks Jr wasn't even booed! I would have spat on him but I couldn't reach.

I'd say it was Insua at LB and Irwin in midfield, unless they're trying something a bit different.

Must have been Dean Bouzanis. According to Gary Ablett none of the Hungarians vere involved in yesterdays game and will not play today either.

The two unnamed subs must have been San José and Pacheco as they're the only ones left of the squad that travelled to the US.

The guy who wrote it - 4pool - got some similar replies at RAWK but he seemed pretty certain that Insua played in midfield. Sounds strange though.

I agree. And my guess is that they used the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Re: Ressies: LFC vs. FK Slavija Sarajevo

I just saw a picture of the players before the game. Bouzanis was the goalie and San José was also in the starting 11, but Irwin wasn't.

They've had only four subs, and Pacheco wasn't one of them. I didn't think he would go to Dallas, but he was listed as one of 19 players at liverpoolfc.tv last week that would travel to the US.

I think the lineup was like this...

------------------------ Bouzanis ------------------------
Kelly ---------- San José ----------Huth ----------- Darby
---------- Spearing --------------------- Insúa ----------
Flynn -------------------- Bruna ----------------- Putterill
------------------------ Lindfield ------------------------

Subs: Ayala, Irwin, Crowther and Mackay Steven

Sporting Lisboa have won their two opening games and are already group winners. They'll play the winner of Liverpool's group in the semifinal.

Liverpool can also be group winners at the end of today, but then they need to beat Tigres at the same time as Ryutsu Keizai Kashiwa doesn't do the same against FK Slavija.

I was waiting for a match report from Remington but as he hasn't posted yet, I'll chip in seeing as I went and watched the game.

As you say the lads beat Tigres 5-1 last night. This was a strange game and to be honest they really didn't play too well - nowhere near as well as on Sunday. Potterill and Spearing especially looked tired (maybe the jet lag caught up with them as I heard they flew in on Friday). The Tigres team looked pretty handy - good ball control and some nice passing - they just couldn't put it in the net when they needed to. The difference between the two teams was that Liverpool took their chances and then defended well.

The massive crowd of about 500 people (497 of which were Mexican) were crammed into one small stand and also around the perimeter of the pitch (small college field for this game). The Tigres fans brought drums, flags, banners, confetti, nacho's - the works, and they made a lot of noise for such a small crowd.

I am not sure of the starting 11 but it seemed similar to that used on Saturday. Huth, Insua, Spearing, Potterill etc all played and all seemed to come through unscathed despite several fairly nasty challenges from Tigres midfielders. The left back (who's name I don't know but it wasn't Insua - he played in the midfield) took a nasty kick on his ankle but he seemed OK.

They play Pokemon FC tomorrow at the same college field.
