Re: DIC takeover a done deal?

I posted this elswhere, but the news is the Americans have agreed to sell but DIC have refused to buy at their price. DIC have verbally agreed with Gillett, but Hicks is trying to re-negotiate, wanting more money or a small shareholding.

On the subject of Hicks being a minority shreholder, from what I was told, it seemes very unlikley, although he was in Dubai for 2 days trying to sort out a compromise.

They have also warned the yanks to stay out of Anfield and stay out of the press, or else the deal is off.

I have been told to expect something concrete in 2-3 weeks.

What were the point of Rafa's comments this week publically? All chairman say the same thigs to their managers each week. Rafa is quite clearly backing Hicks publically.
Rafa was asked a direct question, what was he to say? Thus far the only thing that Bascombe has been proven to be right on was Klinnsman, everything since has been speculation.

So much ado about nothing - Liverpool Echo.co.uk

So much ado about nothing

Feb 23 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

STAFF at a job centre on the Wirral breathed a sigh of relief this week when Liverpool defeated mighty Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Fears that they were going to have to try and find employment for a rotating Spanish manager proved unfounded as Rafa Benitez dodged the bullet which had seemingly been heading in his direction.

Not that there ever was any such bullet, of course. Not only had none been fired, none had even been loaded into the chamber – despite what sections of the national media might have wanted us to believe.

The fact of the matter is that there is no-one at Anfield at present who is in a position to sack Benitez even if that course of action was necessary and surely that power vacuum is the biggest story of all?

Who could sack him? The club's absentee landlords aren’t on speaking terms and haven’t been for quite some time so there is as much chance of Hicks and Gillett making a joint decision as of Charles Itandje winning the golden gloves award.

Benitez’s relationship with Hicks has improved markedly ever since the Texan intimated he was ready to back his manager for the remainder of his contract.

Gillett’s silence on the manager's position – and everything else to do with Liverpool for that matter – is in stark contrast to his co-owner’s public show of support and anyone who believes for a second that the American duo are singing from the same hymn sheet are as misguided as it is possible to be.

Joint ownership requires joint decisions and the only things that unite Hicks and Gillett at the moment are their nationality and their lack of popularity on the Kop.

From the very real possibility of Benitez being sacked by them back in November, in one of the most ironic twists imaginable his position has actually been strengthened by their continued presence at the club.

Should either or both of them depart then the manager’s position, like everyone else’s at the club, will come under review as it will be then, and only then, that the vacuum of power will be filled and big decisions can be made if necessary.

Talk of a shortlist to replace Benitez is similarly wide of the mark. Names like Martin O’Neill, Jose Mourinho and Frank Rijkaard have been mentioned but the fact remains that there is no shortlist.

The vultures arrived at Anfield on Tuesday night hoping to see a decent man lose his job but they left disappointed – but the thing is, even if the Reds had lost, Benitez would still be Liverpool's manager today.

And it may well be that he will out-last the current owners.

That's what a few of us (and Red Nick especially) have been saying for an age, until the ownership is sorted all other talk is ultimately pointless.

Cheers for the info mate but it still seems strange that we would have a story on the Offal making Hicks out to be a good guy now and that him and Rafa have put their troubles behind them.

Re: DIC takeover a done deal?

Perhaps Rafa loves the club more than he hates Hicks and is prepared to do all that is necessary to stay in charge and see this thing through?

even if that does mean playing nicely with Hicks

That's what I was thinking.

However, it seems that Rafa was responding to a direct question in the press conference about whether Hicks is in regular contact, and in a way he's saying that a few emails here and there are all that he is getting.

Remember, Rafa wants to keep a low profile until the ownership situation is resolved, probably under orders, but more likely because he's a smart fucker and knows he's done enough already.

Re: DIC takeover a done deal?

Hopefully they can keep out of the media, hopefully Hicks's son wont be their as it may well include the whole family as im shore the media will be their.

It is really rather worrying that they have included that into the deal, i really hope it doesnt fuck up again.

An alliance against who, Rash?
The reason people dismissed it because it was a one-line comment that he said nothing more about.

Which is why a so-called 'alliance' with Hicks would be pointless if DIC took control.

Rafa doesn't really do pointless.

Re: DIC takeover a done deal?

You wake up in the morning expecting some news regarding the takeover and all you find is Rashid trying to nail Rafa to the cross again and again.

It's getting boring.

Hasn't St.Albans' got a fun fair or something for you to annoy people at?

Which will explain Rafa's new alliance and love for Hicks! But that is bullshit that rumour... DIC will get most of the club if not all.
