Re: DIC: takeover thread
Can someone lock this thread now please? It's boring me to tears and it's obvious to a blind man on a galloping horse that we're stuck with the Americans.

Agreed. 146 pages of hype, hearsay and tittle tattle is way OTT.

Re: DIC: takeover thread
So they each own 50% of the club, George's 50% is worth £100m and the club would cost DIC £500m. Maybe we should stick with Tom after all, he obviously picked the right 50%...

There'll be more on this later I think, but let's see if we get to see the actual email rather than the reporter's interpretation of it.

Re: DIC: takeover thread
More...
Snow at Chicago Airport meant that George Gillett couldn't get to Arsenal for his anticipated showdown with his American co-owner of Liverpool, Tom Hicks, at the Champions League game. But Gillett's son, Foster, sat alongside Liverpool representatives Rick Parry and David Moores at Arsenal as far away from the Hicks entourage as the seating configuration would allow. Hicks has been in London all week trying to find investors who might buy out Gillett for £100million. Foster, who was supposed to be working full-time at Anfield, hasn't been there this year, although he bought a £1m house in the city and his car remains in the drive .

Re: DIC: takeover thread
Tom Hicks ups stakes at Liverpool
By David Bond
Last Updated: 12:43am BST 05/04/2008
Tom Hicks has retained the American investment bank Merrill Lynch to advise him on a new bid to buy out his estranged partner, George Gillett, and seize full control of Liverpool.
Over the past two days, Hicks and senior bankers from Merrill Lynch have been meeting with other City institutions and potential investors in a desperate effort to raise the cash needed to bring an end to the damaging stalemate at Anfield.
Way out: Tom Hicks is desperate to buy out partner George Gillett
Despite widespread opposition to Hicks' continuing involvement at Liverpool, Merills are looking at a range of possible options which would shore up his position at the club.
These are understood to include:
Lending Hicks even more money on top of the recent £350 million refinancing with Royal Bank of Scotland to buy out Gillett's 50 per cent stake and cover his share of the club's debts.
Seeking new private investors who would buy out Gillett and work with Hicks.
Putting together new financial structure to enable Hicks to raise the £300 m which is required to complete the move from Anfield to a new 70,000-seat stadium at Stanley Park.
But sources in America are confident Gillett will not sell to Hicks even if he is able to raise the new capital.
In an interview with a Toronto radio station last week Gillett underlined the animosity which now exists between the two Americans, when he said the hostility towards Hicks from Liverpool fans had made the idea of him selling out to him an "untenable alternative".
Furthermore it is undertood Gillett has already agreed in principle to sell his shares in the club to Dubai International Capital (DIC).
Last month Hicks dramatically called off negotiations with DIC and vowed to block any deal between the Arab investment company and Gillett.

Re: DIC: takeover thread

Exactly. He's not going to give a fuck who he pissed off in England when he counts his cash. He'll spin some line that he didn't sell to Hicks buit to some other consortium, and if they decide to work with Hicks then that's their choice.
Are Merril Lynch not feeling the strain financially also though? Would they want to lump cash around in the current financial climate?

Re: DIC: takeover thread
Merrill Lynch are feeling the crunch the same as everyone else and in all fairness im amazed if they lend cash to such a high risk businessman like Hicks.
Its an complete fucking joke the way we are been run at the moment.
We have been whored all around America, The Middle East and now the UK by these two fuckers in charge and its an embarrasement.
Once again for me it comes back to Moores and Parry for selling to these twats in the first place. A year on, thats it just one fucking year and all they have done is make us into a circus.
I dont want to twat saying well they have brought us Torres, Mascherano and Skrtel but the only people who have brought us them is RBS and Moores could have done that but he didnt want to plunge us too much into debt.
I know the Premier League has not gone to plan but we are close to the semi finals of the Champions League and its this success in such a shite season which is keeping me going whilst Hicks and Gillett are in charge.
RedHorse is correct in that Gillett will sell to any fucker who offers him the highest price. I dont believe for a second he wouldnt sell to Hicks if the Texan had the cash to do it. Like its been put Gillett would just put his PR spin on it and make it seem like he has sold to a consortium.
Hicks has a price he wants to sell at and i wish DIC would just pay it to get rid of him but i feel we are stuck with him for a long time as he will get investment from somewhere soon unless DIC pay more.

Re: DIC: takeover thread
Gillett is a lowlife, but never underestimate the lengths a man with a grudge will go to. If he hates Hicks as much as it seems, I don't think he'd sell to him even if it was for more money. Just my opinion, but people with grudges tend to cut off their nose to spite their face. If I was him, I wouldn't sell to Hicks no matter what he offered (within reason of course, I mean if he offered 1billion then that's different).

I've heard that Kia Joorabchian has been approached/expressed an interest in investing in the club.

Kia can't afford us mate.... he is small fry and no bigger than Gillett on his own. Dave, correct - Gillett won't sell to Hicks.
