In order to get the club of him afterwards. If Hicks tried to buy out Gillett (as GG said in the interview with canadian radio) it might have triggered a shot gun clause allowing the other partner, Gillett, to buy out Hicks for the same amount.
It's a common way for businesses to do joint ventures.
@Hamstrung: Thanks for teaching me!

Re: DIC: takeover thread
I think this seasons final league position and how far we go in the CL is a major factor in this sorry mess were in.
There are only certain facts that were certain of.
How much debt we took on. The fact that we need a new stadium and that the current owners are further apart than us and Everton and that GG and TH valuation of the club is vastly over priced.
Hopefully Forth place now looks certain and with it a certain amount of prize money.
Its the CL campaign and the eventual amount of money that comes with it that's holding things up and also the added prestige it will give to Hicks. Look at the way he couldn't wait to get to be in the middle of that trophy presentation with the kids from the academy.
If we were to go out of the CL this round then the financial position of the club settles and DIC have a bit of bargaining power with Hicks.
I honestly think that the yanks want to go with a bang and what bigger way to go than saying they played their part in us being European champions. Hicks and a photo opportunity with the big one. Does anyone really think hes going to move on while that's still on the cards.
Unfortunately I can't see this beginning to come to an end now until the CL campaign dose and hopefully that wont be until may.

Don't think he gives a fuck. He wants to bleed us for as much money as possible and if that takes another 6 months he'll do it.
My concern is if this drags until July/August then we'll have another window of Rafa not getting who he wants.

Yeah, it'd be horrible if he had to settle for players like Torres, Masher and Skittles, what with them being the most expensive forward, midfielder and defender Liverpool have ever signed.
Not to mention the £11m spunked on a 21 year old.

Well, what other clubs that aren't run by Russian criminals laundering money can afford to spend £20m on a player without it somehow being loaned money?

Utd, Arsenal, Tottenham, Villa, Boro, Everton, Newcastle (not £20m on one player but £20m on 3 players - both are same). They spend based on what they can afford which is how it should be.
It is easy to borrow money and spend it. Moores himself could have done this. Leeds did this and look at where they are now.

If the ownership issue is dragging on over the summer then G&H will not spend a cent.

Re: DIC: takeover thread
Liverpool FC owners feud: Hicks camp attacks Gillett for ‘unhelpful’ interview
Mar 29 2008 by Richard Down, Liverpool Daily Post
SOURCES close to Liverpool FC’s Texan owner Tom Hicks last night criticised co-owner George Gillett for the timing of a hard-hitting interview in which he confirmed the breakdown in their relationship. Hicks is believed to have been angered by the Canadian radio statements in which millionaire Gillett finally spoke out against his partner.
Gillett said that following fan protests – and death threats – he had now changed his mind about selling any of his stake to Hicks – and was even considering buying out his partner.
The Hicks camp believes the timing of Gillett’s comments – after a lengthy silence – are most unfortunate given the huge week of games facing the Anfield club.
A source close to the Texan said: “It is not very helpful to talk about this situation, given the importance of the next two or three weeks coming up in the fixture list.
“These bits and pieces in the media are not beneficial to the overall performance of the club and that’s what we want people to concentrate on at this stage.
“With games against Everton and the Arsenal coming up, football has to come first.”
In the interview, Gillett revealed he had received abuse which he believes had been brought about by Hicks's comments.

Yeah, I know that. But not even the banks will spend money while this drags on. No way will any funds be made available to Rafa to bolster the squad if there is a big ownership wrangle with no one any wiser as to who will end up owning the club.

Re: DIC: takeover thread
Reading a couple of other forums and they mention something about Phil Thompson doing a question and answer session and apparently went off on one about Hicks and Gillet both coming over for the Arsenal game and that Moores and Parry cant get a seat in the board members section because the yanks have took them all.
I cant make my mind up if i should be pissed off that the yanks are stopping the former chairman and club CEO getting a ticket or if i should laugh my bollocks off that the chuckle brothers have been booted out of the private party that is going to take place.
