Arsenal are richer than us, they have better players than us, they have a bigger stadium than us, they just spent less money this season because of the fact that they actually have the players in place to challenge in their ranks already.
This is what is called "building for 10 years" rather than "Being at a mess of a club for 3"

So don't rotate, but give youth players a chance ..... er .......

Of course, Im not really trying to say Wenger can't spot talent, he can. I just thinkits worth noting we have a young squad and that 11.5m on Henry from Juve and 3.5 on PV from Milan, isnt pexactly a complete punt !
Wenger was at Monaco prior to Grampus 8 though mate !!! I thikn Henry was on the books whilst he was there.

It is not difficult to stick by a manager who has gone through nearly a season and a half unbeaten and who has in his time regularly challenged for the league title in previous years - not to mention the brand of football they see each week.

Lol, there is no way in this world you would say that if you were a Gooner. You'd demand big name signings and 4th place isnt acceptable since that spanish man at Liverpool has brought some excellent signings and won them an Fa cup and CL, whilst also being 3rd two years running. Plus were going backwards by not winning the league for 3 years. As for their history, recent at least, is far better than ours, agreed.
But what has history got to do with the future. Its like all this talk of bread n butter, our history and bread n Butter for the past 20 years has been leauge cups and the odd Fa cup. In the past 3 years it been beating Milan, Inter, Juve, Barca and Chelsea......

Theres nothing wrong with it, but since your such a leg on our club, you will know that bar a magical period from 87 to 90, we have never really played fancy dan, attractive footie. More pragmatic, suffocating and bullying teams into submission. Had every game been televised in Shanks and Paisleys day, they'd havebeen hounded out of their jobs for playing negative footie, by the Sky fans.

As I said I am not saying we play football circa 1988 or play gungho Roy Evans style but if you are saying that the teams of the late 70's and through the 80's played the brand of football that Rafa and Houllier do then you are mistaken. I am a football saddo and spend hours watching videos and although we don't play like Arsenal or United do now we played better than any other team in the league at that time and certainly knew how to hold onto the ball, pass it and move into space.

Re: DIC takeover a done deal?
Rashid
below is an actual newspaper report the following day from the final. I think it confirms that we were a dogged team back then.
Liverpool's glory night in Rome May 26 1977
McDermott 29, Smith 67, Neal 85pen | Simonsen 50
Liverpool gained their ultimate reward for 13 years of dogged perseverance in Continental competitions when they became the second English and third British club to win the European Cup.
After taking the lead and dominating the first half they conceded a goal early in the second and for a time were in danger of being overwhelmed by the West German champions' formidable attacking skill. But Tommy Smith put them back in front with his first goal of the season, probably the last and certainly most important of his long career at Anfield, and Neal completed a famous British victory with a penalty.
As the game finished, the 20,000 Liverpool supporters who had regaled the Olympic stadium throughout with songs from home, reacted not with relief but with the jubilation of those who had known all along that the result would be right.
In some ways the match followed the course that many had predicted for last Saturday's FA Cup final. At times Gladbach produced some breathtaking moments in attack and after they had drawn level, Bonhof, the outstanding individual on the night, looked as if he might haul the Germans to victory.
But their defence made error after error, each one more elementary than the last. Gladbach were always in danger of being severely punished for Wittkamp's weakness in the air, Klinkhammers's carelessness, and the fact that on a warm heavy evening Vogts was worn down by Keegan's speed and quick changes of direction.
In the end Vogts gave away a weary penalty by bringing down Keegan to finish any hope that Gladbach might have had of achieving yet another remarkable West German escape.
The German team hit a post before Liverpool scored and might have had another two goals but for the quick reactions of Clemence. But no one could deny the English champions their full credit.
Liverpool have been criticised for playing predictable football which owes more to determination and organisation than to the sort of varied skill shown by the leading continental teams. But they have just won the League, were unlucky in losing the Cup to Manchester United, and have now seen off a side regarded as being among the best in the world. No English club will ever come closer to the treble without actually winning it.
The pattern of play so closely resembled the Wembley match that Liverpool's performance could almost be summed up in the same words. Again Kennedy, McDermott and Case, wonderfully supported by Callaghan, held the midfield for long periods. The difference this time was that Liverpool found space in the penalty area easy to come by and that, when they made mistakes themselves, they survived, that is with one notable exception.
The Germans hardly achieved a serious attack for 20 minutes but, when they did, they nearly scored. Stielike and Heynckes worked the ball quickly up the left and found Bonhof running on the inside for a 20-yard shot that rebounded from the foot of the near post. In the 25th minute Kulik replaced Wimmer, who appeared to have strained a thigh muscle, and three minutes later Liverpool were ahead. Callaghan pushed the ball forward to Heighway near the right-hand corner of the penalty area; as this was happening McDermott ran into a huge gap; Heighway found him with a cool pass and Kneib could do little to stop McDermott's shot low to his right.
The Kop spent half-time singing "Come On You Mighty Reds" but within six minutes of the second half the mighty had fallen, albeit temporarily. Case passed to Neal without looking and found to his horror that he had put Simonsen through. The little Dane held off Smith impudently before unleashing a marvellous shot high into the far corner.
For the Germans it was as if someone had flicked a master switch to animate their previously pedestrian movements. Just past the hour a superb movement, instigated by Bonhof, ended with Simonsen sending Heynckes clear but Clemence sprinted off his line to block the shot and two minutes later Liverpool were back in the lead. Klinkhammer needlessly conceded a corner on the left, Heighway sent the ball in towards the near post, and Smith timed his arrival perfectly to head past Kneib.
After that Liverpool virtually regained their earlier command, although Clemence had to make another desperate save near the edge of his penalty area, pushing the ball away from Simonsen. Seven minutes from the end Keegan sprinted past Vogts on the inside, was brought down, and Neal scored with another of his calm penalties.
There was just time for Stielike to be cautioned for a foul on Keegan and it was all over. "Liverpool are the winners," announced a female voice - but the sea of red and white spreading halfway round the stadium told its own story.
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Kneib; Vogts, Klinkhammer, Wittkamp, Bonhof, Wohlers (Hannes), Simonsen, Wimmer (Kulik), Stielike, Schäffer, Heynckes.
Liverpool: Clemence; Neal, Jones, Smith, Kennedy, Hughes, Keegan, Case, Heighway, Callaghan, McDermott.
Referee: R Wurtz (France).

Most sensible thing you've ever said Rash.
Oh look, I took a few bits out of what someone else said just because it suited my point. I think I'll change my username.

Re: DIC takeover a done deal?
Rafa's teams do not play football like Houllier's do. There's no way under Houllier we'd have played Inter off the park. They didn't get a sniff. Under Houllier, we might have won but it would have been in a completely different fashion.

Re: DIC takeover a done deal?
How many English teams in the 70's played like Brasil or tried to? The pitches themselves didn't allow it! We played as good as any other English team and we certainly didn't hoof it as much as we do now. e.g. we were used to quality between the lines like Kenny, and had Heighway on the wing, who do we have in those positions today? Kuyt and and and injured Kewell?
Are you lot seriously suggesting we play now in the same style as we did then?
