Javier Mascherano

"I would die to try to get my team a win in this game. They are my team-mates for my country but my job is to stop Inter Milan's players."

"When I play for Liverpool, I don't have any friends in the opposing side.

"When I go out on to the pitch, when I get my mind into playing mode, I forget about everything except winning. I will die to try and get my team a win.

"If that means getting myself between the ball and people who are friends off the pitch, then that is just the way it is."

A future captain, in my eyes. Provided he stays, of course.

Re: Javier Mascherano

I'll admit I was a bit sceptical when we signed him as Momo and Alonso where playing well, plus I thought if he was getting the likes of Mullins and Bowyer picked above him then hows he going to get a game here.

BUT FUCK HAVE I BEEN PROVED WRONG

If Carrick and Hargreaves cost about 17m each, then Macher is worth 30m

Re: Javier Mascherano

He is a King among men...only Torres and Reina can be counted in the same bracket as him this season.

He needs to be signed up, he's probably the best midfielder in the premiership at the moment, in my opinion.

The way he has been doing his talking on the pitch I'd want him as captain....

Now, this just made me more convinced that he has the attitude and right spirit to be captain as well...

BTW some of the other players could do well and learn from his example.....

Just proves that Pardew/Curbishley knows nothing when it comes to spotting a world class player...

I totally agree with these sentiments...I think our current captain could take a leaf out of Mascherano's book...less talking to the papers and writting crap autobiographies and do more of his talking on the pitch! Stop thinking he's the best midfielder in the world, and just BE the best midfielder in the world!

the rest of the lot should bloody learn from him. he is constantly giving his 110% every game. Pisses me off seeing our captain walking and jogging when he loses the ball.

Re: Javier Mascherano

Would you like a bit of Torres with that?:

Torres: We can beat Inter
By James Carroll - 19/02/2008 13:32

Fernando Torres is relishing tonight's UEFA Champions League clash with Inter Milan at Anfield.

The striker is set to return to the starting line-up following injury as the Reds looking to take an advantage into the second leg at the San Siro.

And Liverpool's record signing believes that he and his team-mates can put their FA Cup woe behind them and beat the Italian giants.

"This is a very big game for the fans and for us," Torres told the Liverpool Echo in an exclusive interview.

"I came here to play in this type of game, in the Champions League and in other competitions. Inter Milan are a very good team but I think we can beat them. Why not?

"We have an opportunity to get an important win. The supporters, the players, the staff at Liverpool are like a big family.

"It is a different mentality to most other clubs and we need to play like a team tonight."

Speculative press reports recently claimed that Torres is starting to miss life back in the warmer climes of La Liga but that 18-goal forward has dismissed that notion.

He said: "I came here for the football, not the beach.

"The city is great. The people in the street, everyone you come across is very friendly. I can go for a coffee here and be left alone, that could not happen in Madrid.

"And the weather is not a problem for me. In the winter we have cold weather in Madrid as well, you know.

"When I was at Atletico Madrid I went with the Spanish national team and I asked Xabi (Alonso) and Pepe (Reina) what it was like to play at Anfield when the crowd sing You'll Never Walk Alone.

"They would tell me how special it is but I think you have to be there, in the stadium, to feel the sensation. It is a very big sensation. To play at Anfield is always special. I just feel very comfortable whenever I play there.

"I have scored in nearly all the games I have played there and I think that part of that is because of the fans - they help make every game I play there special.

"It is a wonderful stadium and it is even better when we play in the Champions League and in other big games. I feel the love of the fans and it is very good for me.

"I came in as a new player who cost a lot of money and that comes with a lot of responsibility but the fans gave me a fantastic welcome and that really helped me.

"I think the fans like the way I play and enjoy watching me but I think I am enjoying it even more than them because they make it so special for me."

So are you questioning whether Zheng Zhi, Marcus Bent and such are world class.???

I would welcome both before Torres and Mascherano
