TORRES IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP TIE

Rafael Benitez has revealed that star striker Fernando Torres could be back in action for the FA Cup fifth round tie at home to Barnsley next Saturday.
The Spanish star picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty in a friendly against France last Wednesday. However, the player is making good progress and Benitez is confident he will be back available for selection ahead of the Champions League clash with Inter Milan.

"Maybe Fernando will be available for the weekend against Barnsley," said Benitez. "We will have to see.

"We have time now and the physios are working really hard with him. He is very optimistic so I think he could be available for the weekend."

Re: TORRES IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP TIE

Wouldnt risk to be honest or only have him on the bench.

We have the Champs Lge game against Inter Milan a few days after and i think Rafa will make that a priority.

Re: TORRES IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP TIE

Its a no win situation. If we dont play him in the FA Cup and we lose, it will be "we should have played Torres - the FA cup was our best chance of silverware". If we play him and he goes off injured again, like against Arsenal, then he wont be fit for Milan.

Exactly.

Bench for the FA cup, no-brainer.

Re: TORRES IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP TIE

If he's genuinely fit, then i'd start him so he's not rusty for the CL.

If he's not fully fit though, just give him half an hours preparation for Inter.

Re: TORRES IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP TIE

Bench him for FA Cup. If the game is in the balance bring him on for the last twenty minutes. Save for Inter.

Re: TORRES IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP TIE

Barnsley's in good form, and will probably be a bit cocky, we need to shake them up. Release the Torres on them for the first five minutes. The chain him to the bench, if possible.

Re: TORRES IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP TIE

on the bench , give him half an hour to check he's ok for inter

if he's still crocked at least we know about it, would rather play a fit striker against inter than risk him coming off after 10 minutes

If he's 100% fit, play him. If not, don't.
