Re: online news of world match report changed
Cheers for setting the record straight, Chris B.
I've got a question that I hope you'll take time to answer; is it true that you had to file the match report at half time? The reason I ask is of course that it sounds like pretty hopeless mission to me.
It be like me telling whether a woman was a great shag or not as soon as she'd undressed.

Why not try writing a Chelsea match report now? For next week's game? Without knowing the score. Then, when you know the score, you've got to amend it quickly to fit the score. It's not easy. Or write it quickly when you've seen the team, taking a guess on how they'll line up.
I saw yesterday's team and thought he was surely going for a 3-5-2, surely he wasn't playing Carra at right-back on purpose. Unless Finnan had a knock and we had no other full-backs. And I wasn't keen on Pennant being a wing-back in that formation. But there was talk when we were trying to sign Heinze that Rafa was thinking of trying out three at the back for some games for the new season, so I thought this was what he was doing.
Even after kick-off I thought it would only be a temporary measure, and with Carra not getting forward so much in the first half I even wondered if that was what he was trying to play, and it wasn't quite working.
I hope Gerrard's ready to respond to questions about this, because he's on England duty now. Let's face it, Gerrard's never happy unless he's scoring the winner in a big game, and that's not necessarily a criticism of him.
Carra should go an knock on the manager's door, or the manager should ask him in. Carra's an intelligent footballer with a vast knowledge of the game, a potential manager of the future.
That pair are the senior squad members, captain and vice-captain, and it's important they are working with the manager, understanding his decisions.
Next week's a big game and I've little confidence we can win it, but some team building work (with those not away for internationals) as well as training might not go amiss the next few days.

Re: online news of world match report changed
I remember when you used to get the footy echo that you could see the ink was different for most of the match report. Usually the opening and closing paragraphs were wetter than the rest (for want of a better way of putting it), the biggest part having been written well before the end. You'd even see things like the only photo of the game being a first-half goal, but not photos of the three that another player got his hat-trick with in the second half. In games where everything happened in the last ten minutes the main talking points were condensed into two paragraphs.
Imagine the report for the last derby?

It's common practise to draft the report at half time. That's why match reports often seem so muddled, with bits added on here and there and the tone all over the place if the story changed dramatically in the second half.

I don't see how any of that is in response to my point.
Carra put in that cross for the first goal in the second half.
Chris said Carra looked ashamed or something that he had proved the manager right, justified his decision etc.
Sorry... i don't understand how the deadline affects the agenda you have. I'm not buying it.

Behind the scenes, John Toshack rowed with Shanks, Tommy Smith rowed with Shanks and Paisley, Keegan rowed with Paisley, Jimmy Case rowed with Paisley - but they kept it behind the scenes at the time. The attitude of some players today is downright childish.

Fair Play Chris, well done for changing it.
I can see why people are suspicious of the tabloid press, they've not exactly loved us over the years but cut Chris some slack eh? Someone seems to be trying to tell it like it is here. A sub-ed with no knowledge of the facts is hardly rare.

Re: online news of world match report changed
[quote=RedPower;988081]The deadline excuse is fucking laughable considering the fact that Bascombe used to write match reports for the Footy Echo when it came out on Saturday about 10 minutes after the match had finished. Come on atk, that was a fucking pearler that excuse :
g smiles
I was told this and i'm certain that is the case, but as I said he should have been more positive on the match report, and I agree with those who think Gerrard and Carragher should stop moaning.
Its them two that can lift the spirits at the club, better than anybody

So had I until someone reminded me earlier. International break followed by away to Chelsea? Worries me.

I'm still laughing at the fact that you think Parry saved Rafa's job after his (Rafa's) post-Athens outburst, yet you believe he (Parry) only did it so he wouldn't have his holidays ruined by having to search for a new Manager
I think you've got your position firmed up on most things and individuals, and no matter what happens, you're intent on holding on to them by way of 'rationalisation'.

I heard Hicks was going to sack Rafa after the post Athens outburst. I heard Parry told Hicks that he'd be in a position he'd struggle to get back from if he did. That bit was serious. I don't actually remember for sure, I've not just been going through my old posts trying to find fault with them, but the bit about Parry having his holidays ruined was probably tongue-in-cheek, like a lot of what I say. So it's good that you find a lot my posts hard to take seriously - a lot of them are filled with sarcasm.
I also try to have an open mind about most issues, and am willing to change my mind about most people and situations. I'm always trying to see why someone doing something "bad" might be doing it, seeing if there's a good reason for it.
I heard a rumour Derren Brown was seen leaving David Moores' house just before Rick Parry a little over a year ago.

The first para was in response to your post sorry, after that it was just a general ramble...
If you know you've got to have your match report in by half-time, it's probably handy if you can get the outline done before kick-off. If you've just seen your team fail to win their last five league games and on the team-sheet you've spotted a player playing where he's already complained about playing for his country, well that's a good starting point. By half-time it's mainly written and needs just a couple more paragraphs. It's then a case of slotting a couple of lines in here and there, such as the Reina one.
Every Liverpool fan is pissed off now, and we're all sharing the blame out with different weights in different directions. If I'd been writing a report under those circumstances I'd have probably gone for an anti-Hicks theme.

Everything was kept behind the scenes at the time though, it was a different world, a different game, a different club. Shanks had his fair share of quips against the board, but once he'd got them in their place they tended to always support our managers through thick and thin in public at least. The current owners have made decisions that the rest of the board and their manager don't agree with out of personal greed, and that's something new from the hierarchy. Shanks might have rowed with Smith, but both men knew their disagreements were surrounding different ideas about how to go about winning, not how to go about getting richer.

wheather its meant to be or not,it reads as if you have an agenda against rafa.
