Re: Chris Bascombe
i think it's a ridiculous price for a 28 year old and im worried about us spending £35-40m on players who will be worth fuck all in 3-4 years time in Barry and Keane when it could be invested in younger players
i can only think he's being persued to play on the right or left (why would he drop Mascherano who we just spent £17m on?) in which case Benitez needs to admit his mistake and sell Kuyt for as much as possible before his contract runs out

Re: Chris Bascombe
If a player helps us win trophies then we should have no regard for his sell on value. That is for the likes of Bolton to worry about.
While I am not comparing them, Dalglish turned 27 in the season we signed him for a then record fee. Using your "policy" we wouldn't have .
Having said that £20M is too much for Keane - that's based on ability, not age particularly.

the key is versatility in your attacking 4. any one of babel or kuyt or torres can play the lone forward position depending on the game and opponent.
the key is to have at least 6-7 players for that front 4 that are of high quality. right now we have 2 world class players in gerrard and torres and 2 very good players in babel and kuyt. add another matchwinner type to that group as well as another player with the right set of qualities and we'd be in very good stead.
and before we talk about an injury to torres being the downfall of our season, would the mancs be all that great if they lost gay boy? or chelsea without drogba to score their goals? its the same with everyone. if you lose one of your most influential players you will see a let down. the key is we don't have the depth in talent yet that others have in the attacking 4. if rafa addresses it this summer we're in very good shape
|
the problem is that Babel is too inconsistent and loses the ball very easily, and Kuyt would get mopped up by opposition defences very easily. Neither of them are good at holding the ball and bringing others into play. These two would not be good enough to play as lone striker imo.

Re: Chris Bascombe
SO you were telling the truth, going against all you've bleated about Babel and Dirk in previous threads? Oh I see, I just thought you were being needlessly facetious. Apologies and all that.
Sad existence indeed.
Ignored. EDIT: well I would put you on ignore if I could find the option . . .

No way. I'd be pleasantly amazed if Babel is anywhere near awesome this year.

think you'll find that we should be worrying about the value of our players partciularly when Rafa has to sell to raise money, who does he sell next year or the year after? sooner or later one of the crown jewels will have to be sold if we're to buy any more players, which is why buying two 27/28 year olds for 20m each is ridiculous in my opinion

You cannot consider sell on value if your focus is on winning.
We bought Torres on a 6 year contract. He'll be pushing 30 if he sees it out. Should we not have bought him?

yes we should of because we possibly get 6 years out of him and he's worth what we paid if not more if he was to leave, a wise investment.

haha... well if we won premier league titles then fine but i'm cautious, we don't have endless sums of money like Chelsea, how do we replace these players when they get on? or if a new manager comes in and wants new players? or if our current manager deems his own | |
