BBC headline: DIC to bid for whole club

Don't know how much this adds, but here it is:

Liverpool set for new buy-out bid
By Phil McNulty
Chief football writer

Last Updated: Saturday, 19 January 2008, 11:10 GMT

Dubai International Capital - the investment arm of the Dubai Government - is to launch a £500m bid to buy Liverpool Football Club.
BBC Sport understands the offer is in the process of being made to American co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

DIC was originally thought to be ready to make an offer for Hicks' 50% share, despite his insistence that he is unwilling to discuss a sale.

But DIC is now poised to make an offer for the complete buy-out of the pair.

DIC were close to buying the club in January, but pulled out when Liverpool moved into advanced negotiations with Hicks and Gillett.

But Gillett and Hicks' reign has caused turmoil on and off the pitch at Liverpool, and DIC have always maintained their interest despite the collape of the previous deal.

Gillett and Hicks are currently attempting to finalise terms on a £350m loan that would enable them to repay money borrowed for their £219m takeover, repay loans used to sign players, and enable them to start work on a re-scaled plan for a new stadium in Stanley Park.

DIC's offer will be made swiftly to present the American duo with a get-out clause before they take out the massive loan.

Hicks, in particular, is under pressure after being subjected to heavy criticism from fans following public disagreements with popular manager Rafael Benitez, and his public admission that talks had been held with Jurgen Klinsmann about possibly succeeding the Spaniard.

And Liverpool fans will turn up the heat on Gillett and Hicks with an orchestrated protest at Monday night's game against Aston Villa.

Website website Reclaim The Kop issued a statement claiming they were "not fit to be associated with our club" and banners criticising the Americans and calling on DIC to launch a bid were held aloft on The Kop during the FA Cup win against Luton.

A spokeman for the Americans said on Thursday: "Any suggestion Hicks and Gillett are contemplating a sale of the club or any portion of it is categorically untrue."

There are also claims that Gillett is having reservations about his relationship with Hicks.

Re: BBC headline: DIC to bid for whole club

It's welcome news that the 2 gobshites may be on their way out, but I find it staggering that DIC seem willing to spend £500m on the club now, but they seemed to dither last year when the price was far less. Can anyone explain why they would be willing to spend so much on buying the club now?

Nice work by the Yanks if they walk away with a £250m profit.

Glad they are doing this as it offers another option: no sale, partial sale, and now full sale.

If they dont except this, it is just pathetic, they are into make a small fortune from re selling, they wont have their name dragged through the mud, like we are intending to do, fans will be happy and our new owners will have a knowledge of the sport and look to bring in the best.

Time for the americans to leave us with something to be happy with, they started brightly lets end with a bang even how short the stay may have been.

Does seem strange. I wonder if they are talking about takeover price plus the finance for teh stadium?

Normally when you read 'BBC Sport understands' it means that they have evidence to back up their claims.

Maybe last time they knew they were getting a bargain. We are probably now being sold for closer to our true value but still good business.

BBC understands is a term they use when they have been told off the record that something is going to happen but can't publish anything official.

If there's one thing American capitalism loves, it's a quick profit.

Please be true.

Perhaps they made a mistake last year walking away but realise the club is still within the spectrum of being undervalued. I believe they walked away because they knew David Moores' head had been turned and nothing they could do would alter that.

Radical idea, but perhaps Ansari the Liverpool fan realises if we stick with the Americans we're going to go down the shitter and is offering a way out. I know we're talking about millions of pounds here, but if we are a decent investment, and Ansari cares about us then surely any right minded fan would want to step in and end this nightmare if he had the clout behind him to do so?

Re: BBC headline: DIC to bid for whole club

The club has the potential to be worth close to £1bn. Value and price, in the world of business are two separate things. The fact that we were given fresh permission to build this new stadium design might have added fresh impetus to their attempts to buy us.

I dont think the money was the issue last year , they agreed a deal but Parry and Moores fucked them about . They also said it was bad or their image etc.
