You must agree with my point though, because you're certain Rafa is leaving yet we're still signing players?
I just don't see how anyone could say, 'the fact that we're signing a player proves that Rafa's job isn't under threat'. It's naive.

Because it doesn't make sense to spend £6.5m, especially if G&H are "skint".
If Rafa goes it will be because of results, nothing else. You yourself have been very critical of the way we play and the results we have been getting.

Different siuation obviously, but my liverpool miscellany book tells me that Ray Kennedy signed on the day Shanks resigned.

ha ha, well i thought thats were the original kick off escalated when Arnesen signed players he didnt want.
I do agree with you, we need a CB the board know that and they want us to beat Inter after all. For me thats the deciding factor in why he is still here.
If we beat them then we have a chance and everyone will sit up and wont fancy us again, and so Skrtel will definitely help but if we lose then that will be the end for them I think.

I have been very critical of Rafa lately, you're right, but what's that got to do with it?
My point is about the new owners and the fact that them 'allowing' Rafa to sign a centre half is proof that they're not planning to sack him. That's not how I see it.
I'm only playing devils advocate really, but the fact is that a board allowing a manager to sign a player doesn't mean they're not planning to sack him.

By chance could the owners share similar criticisms of Rafa?
My trouble with all this is allowing Rafa to spend a significant sum on a player the next manager might not want.

And mine is that results and progression will dictate Rafa's future, not petty squabbles between him and the board.

You see I don't see the logic of giving him £6.5m to spend if they are going to sack him. Would you loan £10 to someone that you know you are going to fall out with/never see again?
That £6.5m might be the leverage that gets us a more suitable candidate IF (and that's a huge IF in my opinion) Rafa loses his job.
Results will dictate Rafa's future in my opinion.

Re: Is it really an injustice?
I to have been critical and if they were considering replacing him on results alone id say its unfair but much fairer than getting rid because of a spat which got out of hand.

They're not giving Rafa the money though. It's going into strengthening (hopefully) the club's playing squad. The £6.5M will still be there, in the shape of the player, if Rafa does leave.
I'm not saying that the owners are definitely going to sack him for anything other than results. I'm saying that a board releasing funds for a player doesn't mean that they aren't planning on replacing him at all.

Re: Is it really an injustice?
Kopite - the £6.5M for this new defender might be an investment for the club and bought on the advice of our scouts not just Rafa.

Yes it could be that they have got a second opinion from Klinsmann for example. Also I am sure they have factored in the fact that if we don't get a good centrehalf in for cover and we have any further injury problems in that position then we could miss out on going further in the CL and potentially if the worst came to the worst 4th place in the league (with all the money they entail).

Spot on Zippy. There is nothing to suggest that Klinssmann hasn't okayed it too.

Re: Is it really an injustice?
Is there anything to suggest he has, or that he's linked to the club by any other means than his marketing consultancy?
Of course the other reason, and I know it's an off the wall idea, is that he's a player Rafa wanted.

Re: Is it really an injustice?
yeha like Klinnsmann is an expert on the transfer market, he's never bought a player in his life
I hate the fact that he's linked to us.

I'm more worried about Mick Hoban and Warren Mersearau are linked to us.

No and no.
Nobody doubts he is a player that Rafa wanted though do they.
Cardie be honest do you think Rafa will be still in the Liverpool job this time next season (if we still have the current owners)?

Re: Is it really an injustice?
Not sure why the Owners are the sole reason rafa will be gone in the Summer.
If they took a quick glance on here and other forums and they could quite easily come to the conclusion that we think Rafa's time as manager is coming to an end and we want him gone.
I've no reason to believe he won't still be manager in the summer.
