Allardyce did well enough at Bolton though his style won few friends. He always felt he had the talent to handle a bigger job and wasn't shy in 'bigging himself up' as he pondered new horizons.

I feel he should get at least one whole season at Newcastle before being judged on whther or not he is up to the challenge of a bigger job, but obviously the signs do not look very encouraging thus far.

I would imagine that this is a humbling experience for the man.
