Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
Watching the Arsenal second string there tonight, you have to wonder how our reserves would do aginst them? No dis-resepect to our lads but you have to marvel at the strength of the Arsenal squad and the fact that even the 17 year old kids seemed totally tuned into an Arsenal style of play.
Listening to the usually awful Merseyside phone in last night some bloke called in to say he was a regular reserve watcher and he wondered why none of our fringe 1st team squad players make regular appearences for the reserve team anymore. Good point I thought. Here we are waiting on Agger and giving Kewell an hour a game. Why arn't they given more reserve games? Also, why arn't the Voronin's of this world given more time in the reserves? Surely it would give players coming through from the youth team and players in the 1st team squad time to develop a difinitive LFC style...if we have one anymore with all the chopping and changing.
Can any regular reserve team watchers tell me how they think our lads would get on against some of those Arsenal players?
Our youth team looks good obviously but has the Reserve team become another sadly neglected element of the lub?

The exact opposite, in my opinion.
You could argue the point during the latter stages of Houllier's reign when the likes of Diao, Cheyrou and other no-hopers were clogging up the reserves and blocking young lads from progressing up the ladder but I believe that we have a pretty decent side at that level.
I'd only play senior players in the reserves if they're coming back from injury; otherwise you're just blocking the path of a youngster from stepping up another level.

Re: Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
Our reserve team IS basically the youth team now with a few older pro's! They are playing against players of international standard in the reserves of the premiership teams who aren't getting in the first 11 for their clubs.

So he hasn't been signing lots of talented young players from around the world? Our reserves are top of their league.

Re: Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
I smell a wum.
The reserve league is not competitive really.
Also the comparison with Arsenal is unfair... they have been assembling that youth/reserve squad for years. In essence we have only just started.

Re: Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
Every other thread wanking over Arsenal or Utd is fucking doing my head in. I'm not saying we have to pretend they dont exist or acknowledge both are very good (Look at the table) but this is taking the piss.

Re: Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
I like rafa very much but I cant see the logic in his head when he decided to play torres&gerrard in the leaguecup match away at reading.
how often does mr.ferguson put ronaldo&rooney on the field when manu enter this mickeymousecup?
rafa always talk how important its to give players a rest during a long season and then he puts 2 of ours biggest stars on the field in that match!

Re: Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
I also enjoy to watch them play but if they play for their nationalside and for lfc in prem+cl+facup and leaguecup,so dont you think it would have been a good choice to give them a rest in this match so noth of those could been 90 minutes on field agains birmingham

Re: Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
I wasn't talking about the lack of a space. I misread it and thought that you were advocating them playing for their national side before the club.
That well proves that I am far from perfect.

Re: Arsenal Reserves V Our Reserves
Bar a few additions to the first 11 the club is at its best on the playing side since 1991 which makes the current situation even more laughable
