Surely Miguel Veloso isn't worth £20M?
Tells me one thing, no good player at the top of his profression will come cheap.

Portuguese midfield starlet Veloso, 21, is on United's wanted list - but Real Madrid, Arsenal and Inter Milan are all monitoring him closely.

Queiroz says Veloso is among the top young players in the world, and United are considering making a move even though Sporting have stuck a £20million price tag on his head.

"It is impossible to ignore good players and we are following the evolution of some top players," said Queiroz.

"One is Veloso. He would be hard to ignore even at that price.

"Big clubs such as Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal have a scouting system that looks at players throughout the year.

"Players like Miguel Veloso, Joao Moutinho, Ricardo Quaresma, Bosingwa or Bruno Alves are on our list, but we don't know who will come.

"We have good midfield players like Scholes, Carrick, Hargreaves and Anderson.

"But it is true that if someone was to leave the club then Veloso would be our priority.

Valencia paid 17m sterling for Manuel Fernandes and he was easily second best to Veloso when Portugal U21 met Ireland U21. So going by this alone, 20m isn't paying over the odds.

He is class, so assured on the ball and very good at dictating pace.

Sporting might set his price at 20 million but we won't want him for that price, especially while we have Lucas, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso and Sissoko.

I've not seen much of him , but the only thing that bugs me is that if we were interested at that price we'd be 'desperate' , but if Man U are looking at him Ferguson will have pulled off a masterstroke.

I think it's getting ridiculous and why Benitez is right in saying you need to go for players quickly before they come on to Utd's radar and suddenly become worth £20m

Cardie shut it for once.

I know we don't need another CM but it does show our esteemed owners the ambition of other clubs even after huge outlays in the same area. I note they are also in for Quaresma and Moutinho....looks like Quiroz will take over some day.

Say what you like about Fergie but he is good at buying attacking talent.

He is a CM, defensive CM. Of our players, he is most similar to Alonso, in that he sits back, dictates pace, pings balls around the field etc. Now he is faster than Alonso, but he is not as good as Alonso by any stretch of the imagination, but his greater speed will probably make him better in the long run.

Rash, he isn't an attacking midfielder.
