TORRES SET FOR LIVERPOOL START

TORRES SET FOR LIVERPOOL START football365.com
Posted 20/11/07

Fernando Torres looks set to make a return to the Liverpool starting line-up to face Newcastle at the weekend.

Liverpool's record signing has not started a game since breaking down in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the end of October, after picking up an abductor muscle injury with Spain.

Torres has remained in Liverpool over the international break to work on his fitness while the rest of Rafa Benitez's strikers have been away with their national sides.

Therefore, the Liverpool Echo claims that Torres is in pole position to make the starting line-up at St James' Park.

Harry Kewell is also in the running for a place in the Liverpool side after coming through 90 minutes of Australia's friendly with Nigeria on Saturday.

Benitez told the Echo: "It was good to see Harry get 90 minutes. I was talking with him and he said it wasn't a high tempo game so he was able to get through it.

"Physically he probably still needs to improve his pace and stamina but he is getting there.

"When you talk about Harry then you talk about a player of quality and ability who can make a big difference to our team. He can give different things to us, especially against teams who play deep and compact."

Lets unleash Torress and destroy toon poon whatever they call themselves.

Re: TORRES SET FOR LIVERPOOL START

Torres and Kewell back fit and firing would be ace and just the boost we need.
We have missed both massively....or players of their type.

Re: TORRES SET FOR LIVERPOOL START

Newcastle are DEFINITELY there for the taking. They haven't impressed me this season and have just become thugs. Fat Sam won't want to lose this one as it obvious how much he hates raa. They definitely leak goals and with torres back i can see them playing defensive as they will be scared of his pace. So if we can unleash kewell on the left as well that would be an added bonus. I hear alonso may be fit for the game as well is that true?

The Chief vs Nicky Butt, a bit like Rocky Marciano vs Timmy Mallet.

It's gonna be a hot time in the old town

Re: TORRES SET FOR LIVERPOOL START

Fat Sam will have them well up for this, so we shouldn't count our chickens. It will be a tough game, but I still think we have the quality to win. A fit torres will be invaluable. I'd also like to see Babel's pace used up front to really put them on the back foot. I'm slightly wary of Hyypia v Martins (pace on the deck), so hopefully Agger will be back.

Re: TORRES SET FOR LIVERPOOL START

I would imagine Torres is chomping at the bit which is only good news for us.

Whenever you have Torres in the team you instantly have the fear factor running through the opposition because as of yet he hasnt shown any weakness.

Against Reading and Chelsea he has shown he can take the shithouse tactics of kicking him and not many defenders are going to catch him so matching him for pace is out of the question.

I would give Babel a run out on the right with Riise on the left (subbing the latter for Kewell as the game goes on).

No team likes pace and Babel is starting to show the confidence we know he has got and hopefully he can continue to progress as the season is going on.

Fat Sam is going to be embarrassed that his 'big' side does worse against Liverpool than his 'little club'.
