KUYT - I`VE BEEN TOP PERFORMER

Wow he actually thinks he's playing really well, now that is scary!!

http://www.football365.com/story/0,1...883486,00.html

Dirk Kuyt has claimed he has been one of Liverpool's top performers this season.

The Dutch striker has come in for some criticism for his performances so far this term, particularly after missing several chances in their 0-0 draw with Blackburn earlier this month.

Kuyt has scored just two goals in the league (two penalities against Everton) this season, but still thinks that his all round game has been good.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "I can understand the criticism. It makes sense since I missed three great chances against Blackburn Rovers.

"But people say that I'm in crisis, and to them I must respond that I don't feel that way.

"If you list the players at Liverpool who've shown their best form so far this season, I'd be among the top ones."

Kuyt became a victim of Rafa Benitez's rotation policy for the recent games against Besiktas and Fulham, but isn't complaining about finding himself out of the starting line-up:

"Liverpool's rotation system means that often you cannot play two consecutive games. The manager believes that players need to be rested, and so he rotates us.

"I knew that this would happen when I arrived at Anfield, and if we finish the season in amongst the silverware then Benitez's decision will have been proved right.

"You won't catch me complaining about it."

Re: KUYT - I`VE BEEN TOP PERFORMER

I agree, he probably is playing near the top of his form. He's playing at around about the same level as always, maybe just below. It just doesn't get too much better, I'm afraid.

Re: KUYT - I`VE BEEN TOP PERFORMER

I just don't understand how he feels he's been one of our top performers that's all. There are quite a few players that have been better than him this season. He's been average at best. But i agree Stringvest i really don't think he can get any better. I must admit i thought it strange that when rafa was talking about the assets of torres he said that his finishing wasn't the best and that voronin and kuyt were better. Voronin does seem like he can be a good finisher, but kuyt? Give me a break i would hardly call him a class finisher lets be honest.

Voronin isn't a good finisher either. He scored 37 goals in his last 3 seasons at Leverkusen. Not eaxctly earth-shattering.

But we have seen him score one on one's in preseason but yeah i take your point as its very valid. But i'm trying to remember a time when kuyt good finishing and for the life of me i can't think of one. I sure there is though but in general he just doesn't look like he can be a clinical finisher.

Kuyt Good Finishing = Chelsea at Anfield(2-0 Victory) Last season. Done.

Kuyt may be a GREAT finisher but we'd never see it because he's never in the fucking box(about the only bad thing I can say against Kuyt... What a stand up individual)

As Captain says, I hope he's been misquoted too!

Having said that, he's covered so much ground that maybe that's what he's talking about? These days, how many kilometres you've ran in a game is analysed so closely that it can now be seen as putting in a performance.

Re: KUYT - I`VE BEEN TOP PERFORMER

I like Dirk as has been well documented on here (on and off the field) and I am not happy when people have an unfair go at him. On 606 last weekend one muppet even said I think 'I hope we never see Kuyt ever play for the team again' which made me well annoyed. However .....

His first job as a striker is to score goals and so far this season in the comp that is our priority (PL) he has scored 2 - both penalties so if he really thinks he is playing well he needs a reality check. As has been said I just hope it is a misquote.

But in fairness to him I think he is not being played in his best role which is to stay in the box with another striker to support him. Then I would expect he will pick up a lot more goals as I cannot accept that he is a bad finisher when his career goal scoring record is looked at - OK in the PL it will be harder and he will not score as many as in the Dutch League but to get to 12 games in and only have scored 2 penalties is plainly not acceptable.

For form reasons at present it may be best for him not to start and to ease his way back in, particularly as we have other options who are on better form right now (I like most others would play Torres and Crouch - pity Rafa does not seem to necessarily agree!!). But I am more than hopeful that long term Dirk will be a great player for LFC.

Why is it harder? Is the goal smaller in PL, or the ball bigger and heavier? Okay the league may be harder but it's not like he doesn't get chances.

Cos the defenders who he is up against are better and mark him tighter so he will not get as many chances and the keepers are also better so may well stop his shots - isn't that like obvious!!

Re: KUYT - I`VE BEEN TOP PERFORMER

One thing I think we need to take into consideration is the way the strikers play under Rafa's management. It often frustrates me to see our strikers running the channels or coming deep, and when we do have chances, only have one or two players in the box. I'd at least like to see one striker just focus on being in danger area's.

I think technically we may be creating more 'chances' these days, but i think we have GOT to be down on REAL goalscoring chances. Our strikers tend to get a small handful of chances each game and coupled with the work they're expected to get through, tired legs etc, I think playing in this way, anything other than a true top class striker would struggle slightly.

I like Kuyt, I like what he does for the cause, and I damn sure know that if I ran as much as he did during a game, maybe now and then (Or most times!) my tired body wouldnt be too kind to me either when I most wanted it to.

Okay, understand that but I guess the point I was trying (badly) to make is that he's in a better team and that should compensate somewhat for the step up in class. And aside from the top 5-6 teams I'm not sure that there is a huge gulf between any of the top European leagues.
