The phrase the dogs of war being used in this forum to describe the reds lately.I dont know how others feel about this but it's pissing me off.The term dogs of war in football terms is part of blueshite folklore. For the benefit of some who might not no about the term, it was used to describe the blueshite midfield of 94/95/96.There then manager Joe Royle used the term to call the shite in his midfield of Ebbrell Horne and Parkinson and it became a part of there folklore.Apart from the fact the 3 players mentioned had no skill what so ever between them, they were 3 of the biggest yard dogs seen on Merseyside for years. If that was not enough Royle came up the name to describe them after they beat us 2-0.To describe any red player as a dog of war to me is a insult of the highest order. Rant over

I do agree. I don't want to see us grimly hang on for dear life as we try to guard a lead for 85 minutes at home, I want to see us play teams off the park.

For me, you can translate "dog of war" as "not good enough for this football club".

Yeah I see your point. On another point apart from the fact that the term is being used to describe a player/players who have played in some of the finest red victories, even score the odd goal or two as well in important games for us.How would you describe just say for instance,a person who has say the ability to change a post on a forum, just say maybe 12 hours or more after firsted posted.Just say for example to add something to someones post that wasn't there before to maybe try to make a prick out of someone?I just intrested as I have seen this happen on other forums.Thats the one thing about this forum, it would never happen here.Praise be and all that theres no assholes like that here.

Frank McKlintock said on the radio here that "Liverpool were hanging on like dogs and that's not the Liverpool way I know fromw way back". He went on to to say that "Liverpool had no cohesion, no ideas of their own, only to stop Arsenal"...

I know he is a tit but he had it spot on.

Frank Mc-fucking-Klintock? For fuck's sake, Rash - there's scraping the bottom of the barrel and then there's breaking through to the fresh air on the other side, mate.

Yes I know... but he had it spot on. If only we allowed the opposition to worry about us for once.

Isn't he the one who almost got into a fight on Irish tv? With Keane's co-writer or something?

Re: Anyone else noticed that

I'll tell you what pisses me off most, and this can relate to the use of the "dogs of war" in respect of the Arsenal match, is the total lack of recognition for the fact that several times over the last few years we have played Man Utd 'off the park' home and away, at times we have done it to Arsenal and once or twice maybe we have done the same to Chelsea.
Sometimes we have won, particularly at home, but often home and away we have lost when we didn't deserve to.

And for once, for fucking once, we're the ones holding on for the result, we're the ones who would probably have been considered lucky had we had won.

How many times have we come away from Old Trafford absolutely dejected after a confident and comprehensive performance has somehow turned into a loss?

Re: Anyone else noticed that

I don't care for the dogs of war language since we are better than that. I prefer Hansen's 'grit and determination', which is a basic requirement (though to go for the bigger prizes you obviously need a lot more).

Arsenal are playing really well at the moment. We are going through a sticky patch. That said, we are hanging in there - and even with our injuries on Saturday (which obviously made us less effective going forward) Arsenal were chasing the game to try to equalise. They had some good chances but I also remember Almunia pulling off a number of crucial saves, as well as a last ditch Gallas tackle stopping Gerrard's would be winner.

Arsenal at their best could not beat us on Sunday. I'm not sure if they can get much better than that, but we certainly can.

As seen above, there was one person who started calling some of our players "dogs of war" and he was well aware of it's connotations. He does it on purpose because he is a shit stirring cunt. He will do it even more now you have made this point.
