First time you 'loved' LFC
Not so much how did you become a fan, i.e 'Me dad used to take me to games' etc, but the first moment that you knew this was your team.
I never stood a chance of not being a fan, as my mother was seperated from my dad - and all of his family were hardcore catholic-blueshite combo, so my Uncle went to work on me from an early age.
Apperently my first ever word was 'Dalglish' (although I doubt it sounded like that at the time), owing to the fact said uncle used to bounce me up and down chanting it for fucking ages at a time.
However I didn't really 'care' about the club until I was six.
It was watching the reds in the 86 cup final against the bitters.
It was like someone had switched on a light and i was going fucking nuts when we won, still remember the feeling now.
It's mad how anyone can feel an emotional attachment to a sporting institution to the point where grown men will cry, do you think these connections run deeper than with any other sport?

The buzz in school the day after the '77 Europen Cup Final. Everyone was going on about it all day even though most of us hadn't even watched it.

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
i'm a bit older than you lads.
I was also 6 & as a treat was allowed to stay up to watch the CupWinners Cup Final agin Borussia Dortmund in 1966. We lost to a spawny Ron Yeats own goal ( Libuda my arse - ignore the records ) & cried all night.
I got up the next day & demanded I went to the next home game with my dad & I've been obsessed ever since.

Even though I come from OOT, I grew up knowing it and had no choice.
I was six in '77. That's probably it for me as well.

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
I don't know all my early memories seemed tinged with pain. I remember the Wimbledon cup final and last gasp league defeat well but not the league victory in between. Also losing a semi-final to Palace. Must have been a John Barnes free kick

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
One of my most vivid memories of primary school was the chat going round the cloakroom when we signed a complete unknown called Ronnie Whelan. I can even remember the school satchel I had that very day. 1979 or 1980 (crikey).

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
The first team I picked was Ipswich when i was about 4 otr 5! I started supporting them for some reason, no idea why. Might have been to do with Frans Thyssen.
They won the league that year as well - then i got real. Stood on the kop with my dad against some polish team and that was that

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
I remember going to a family do when I was quite young. It was in the house of me mad Auntie Mary who lived in the Welsh streets near Goodison. She was a die-hard Evertonian. She came into the room and asked me mam "Who does she support?" Me Mam, who was from Devon and didn't understand the significance of the question muttered something about liking both teams. "I don't care which one she supports but she's a Scouser and is going to support one of them." retorts Mad Auntie Mary. I don't know why but I just blurted out "I'm a Liverpool fan." Auntie Mary put on her coat and left the house. I was told I'd upset her or said the wrong thing but half an hour later she returned with a Liverpool scarf she been out to buy and gave it to me.
Everyone should have a mad maiden aunt.
The first time I cried was the Case / Greenhof final. I was jumping around days later though.

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
I cried like fuck in May 89. Like Section, I'd have to say it was the 86 Cup Final. I was 6. My Mum put on a spread for us and made a big deal out of it.

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
When I became interested in football, Liverpool were naturally the team for me. I lived in Berkshire at the time, where we'd moved from Wirral a few years earlier. I just naturally supported the nearest big club to where I was born (wasn't interested in small clubs like Tranmere or Everton).
First time I really 'loved' them was shortly after that. FA Cup quarter final second replay (penalties are for wimps - real footballers played until they dropped) - West Brom beat Liverpool 2-1 at Maine Road. I was heart-broken, and that's when they stopped being a team I'd picked to support and instead became part of my life - and now a major drain on my finances!

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
1996 cup final when I started punching my brother who cheered when Cantona scored. Although It was beat into me from no age, I was put in a liverpool boys team from the age of 5 in belfast. I was talked to by a scout from everton and as soon as my dad heard that he made me go back to training. So I didnt stand a chance really, I wore a long red liverpool shirt at my christening party.

Re: First time you 'loved' LFC
I was lucky my two uncles were mad reds and went over regular in the sixties - there were always wools - and as a kid brought me scarves and pennants etc so it just evolved.
The 71 cup final was when it really hit and from then on I was hooked.
