Hammill gone on loan.
Liverpool winger loaned to Saints
Southampton have secured the services of 19-year-old Liverpool winger Adam Hammill on a season-long loan.
Saints beat off strong competition from Scottish champions Celtic to sign the England Under 19 international, who can operate on either flank.
Manager George Burley said: "He is a young player who did very well on loan at Dunfermline last season.
"He is a quick player who likes to take people on. He has bags of potential and I am very pleased to have got him."

Re: Hammill gone on loan.
Seems a good move for the lad, a decent enough level of football working under a manager who'll try and get his team to play good football.

Re: Hammill gone on loan.
We will get a better idea of what level he is at while hes at Southampton.
It would be great if he's in a position to fight for a place with us this time next year.

Re: Hammill gone on loan.
If Celtic wanted him we should have sent him to there so he can get some European experience.

I dont follow Scottish football, but maybe he wasnt confident of securing a first team place in their side.

He'd have got a game in any side in Scotland. I was hoping Rangers might take a chance on him.

Is he not yet ready for the bench at Anfield?

Re: Hammill gone on loan.
I reckno he shoul have gone to Celtic as well.
I reckon the level in Scotland is as good as our second division (sorry, but I STILL refuse to call it "the championship"!) and he would not only have gotten some European exposure (potentially) but h3 would also have been integrated in to a big club's set-up.

Celtic have a strong midfield. Scott Brown, Paul Hartley, Evander Sno, Thomas Gravesen, Massimo Donati, Jiri Jarosik and Aidy McGeady are all fighting for a place.
If he could walk into that midfield then he shouldnt be going out on loan at all.

In my opinion he's better than McGeady. Graveson's on his way out, Brown, Sno, Hartley and Jarosik are central midfielders so he wouldn't be competing against them, except maybe Brown who's a bit more versatile and can play anywhere in midfield. I know fuck all about Donati and I know they've just given a trial to another Italian midfielder.
He would get a game in that side, I've no doubts.

Re: Hammill gone on loan.
I don't think he's better than McGeady yet, he may well end up being better, but I think this deal is ideal, Southampton will be up around the top end of the league next season and they play good football. It's probably better for his progress that he's playing with a top end Championship team playing attractive attacking football than playing with a struggling Premiership team scrapping for points.

nah, he's far better off in the championship. If he was at Celtic he'd have one 4 tough games a season as most of the teams in Scotland are no better than old 3rd division teams. Granted he would have potentially got some European experiance but a decent level of football week in week out is far more beneficial.

Pleased for the Saints fans that we have been able to lend them Hammill, they were gutted to lose out on Guthrie to Bolton.
