Liverpool v Mancs
Which areas would you say are better as current teams look like working out?
Strikers
Mancs: Rooney, Tevez, Saha
Us: Torres, Kuyt, Crouch, Voronin
Wingers
Mancs: Giggs, Ronaldo, Nani, Park
Us: Kewell, Gerrard, Pennant, Babel
Centre mid
Mancs: Scholes, Carrick, Hargreaves, Anderson
Us: Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard, Sissoko, Lucas
Full backs
Mancs: Evra, Neville, Brown, O'Shea
Us: Riise, Finnan, Aurelio, Arbeloa
Centre backs
Mancs: Vidic, Ferdinand, Silvestre
Us: Carragher, Agger, Hyypia
Keepers
Mancs: Van de Saar
Us: Reina
Well, try picking players in bold to make the best team and see what you come up with.

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
#1. We haven't signed Babel. #2. They have not signed Tevez.
We piss on their team. Except for on the wings.

That's why I said "looks like working out". Yeah I should have waited a couple of weeks.
I reckon only Reina is better for us than what the mancs have.
Defence is even for me - although seems a lot of people reckon Riise isn't good enough, so maybe the edge goes to the mancs at full back. Centre mid we perhaps just about edge. The mancs are better at winger and striker for me.
We're going to have to be on our game big time to be challenging them for the title this year.

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
Our back line is stronger and more disciplined.
Theirs is....... quicker I guess.... thats all I can think of.
Our midfield has me salivating... truly world class
Theirs is functional.... it gets the job done.
Our forward line looks menancing.
Theirs looks.... like a bunch of neanderthals..... Honetsly how much inbreeding went on to produce those two (Saha not included, hes a pretty boy)
However.........
Theres a huge difference between Theory and Practice.
Real Madrid had a superb team on paper the last three years (barring this season).
On paper this year's La Liga winners wouldn't rate next to Los Galaticos from 03/04 - 05/06. But Les Meringues only won anything of note this year 06/07.
Unrighteous we do piss on the Manc team on paper.
Potential is nothing, Performance is everything.
I'm full of useless quotes today.
I hope (along with everyone else) that we now have the armoury to bag Number 19!!!

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
True RedSand True... however, Ferguscum will be hard pressed to get as lucky as he was last year again.
They really, really, really got some fortunate bounces and had very few key injuries.
Also, Ferguscum is piss poor tactically. He does, however, know how to unleash a side on a lesser one and batter them.

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
Individual comparisons aren't that relevant when discussing a team's performance. Most Reds would agree that, player for player, we've got a stronger defence. However, they conceded fewer goals than us last season. In my opinion, the most valid comparisons between the two sides are in terms of pace, skill, goals and tactics. In those areas, United are still some way ahead of us except for tactics. Even that is only in Europe, but I see the signing of Hargreaves as a very astute move for them in terms of translating their domestic all-out attack policy to the biggest stage. The best grounds I can see for optimism are that we probably won't win or lose the league against them; that'll be done against everyone else.

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
I think with the signing of Torres and potential signing of Babel we are adding pace to our attack last season which we were desperate for.
Last season other then Bellamy we had no-one that could run onto a through ball and beat the defender whereas now we have Torres, Voronin and hopefully Babel who are all fast and gives us an extra dimension upfront.

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
Mr Jones, you didnt Bold Gerrard. I'm confused.
And Saha wont be with them by next season. Ferguson in his conference yesterday listed his forwards and mentioned smith not being good enough and didnt even mention saha.
And i agree with Paul, its all down to tactics. But if Rafa can rotate at the beginning and win games, we've got a chance.

I bolded him at right midfield if you would be so good as to notice Mr Thants.
I think if we're going to win the league it will come down to the games against the Mancs and Chelsea as to who comes out on top. I'm assuming that the Mancs especially will be able to batter the dross as per usual. If we can win the "tricky" away games that we lost or drew last season - Blackburn, Bolton, Everton, then we'll be up there challenging and it will be the games against the other top teams that make the difference.

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
The united team played the best football in the country last season and won the league fairly easily. Player for player we might be better but are we a better team? God I hope so.

Re: Liverpool v Mancs
I wouldn't compare us to them right now. Bar our European performances, United played at a vastly superior level to us last season, playing some fantastic football too.
Whatever about individual head-to-heads, let's see how our team next year handle going a goal down or breaking down a defensive side.
Too often last season when Plan A (Play the Ball Through The Middle) didn't work, heads went down in the absence of a Plan B and there was a general lack of leadership and ideas.
United's self belief even when they go one or two goals behind is absolutely staggering, and something we should be looking to rival. Granted they have better players in attacking positions, but it's also the mentality Ferguson has driven into them.
And I never want to see a Liverpool performance as gutless as at Old Trafford last season again.

Ever since United started winning championship's people have been claiming there lucky. But I don't buy it, you don't stay at the top as long as they have on sheer luck.
They won the championship last season because they were the best side in the country, simple as.
They've added two players who will instantly improve there first eleven (presuming they get Tevez), and two who have the potential to do so in the future.
There gonna be very, very strong this season.
Can we beat them too the league? Of course we can, if we get two more top players on board, and Rafa sort's out his tactics away from home, we would stand a real fighting chance.

We are more solid but they still look like they have the cutting edge we lack in the "humdrum" games.

The combination of fruit and cereals with the occasional nut can be rather distracting.
