Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
The thing is we are wanting to win the PL and in most areas of the pitch I am happy that we have the players to seriously challenge to do that - central midfield, defence, keeper.... not so sure about full back and wide players but thats another debate!!
Then you go onto strikers - 2 seasons ago with Mori and Cisse we clearly weren't good enough, I felt last season on paper we were a lot better with Dirk, Robbie and Bel in but the goals scored figures and league position don't lie - we were still found wanting so more tweaking is required. So now we have Voro and Torres instead and I think most people think thats a further improvement. Sad that Bellamy has to go as he is a good player and maybe we did not get the most out of him and he is a life long LFC fan and maybe he could have stayed but with the new arrivals he would not have played much and so if we are to get the PL the best decision for all is for him to go. Still not really sure we are good enough in terms of wide players who will be providing for Torres ...etc (Pennant, Kewell look like the best we have) to win the PL but lets wait till the end of the summer hey to see who Rafa gets in - I bet he will get at least one new wide player (Bennayoun would be worth having IMO) as he is not stupid and knows where we are good enough and where we aren't. And in all that i have said about Bellamy I have not mentioned his character which I think is also a factor in the decision to let him go. |

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
I think he was a pointless signing. I'd much rather Rafa had used the money from him and Pennant to pay the full asking price for Alves. He could have then made more use of our best striker, instead of benching him a lot of the time like he did. If he was worried about cover, he could have used Cisse and/or Pongolle as a stop gap measure.
Bellamy played at exactly the same level he always does: that of a good, honest Premiership footballer. Unfortunately for him, we just need a much better class of player than that; primarily someone who can finish. As a bloke, I actually ended up really liking him. He's obviously a genuine Red, is very passionate on the pitch and hasn't moaned once. I wish him well.

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
Never wanted him in the first place but as was said on here, once he was signed at least he was our cunt.
He loved playing for the club - no hermes pun intended there - but he let himself down and it is always there lurking. No tears in this household he is gone and we made money which is always good and I will forever be grateful of the goal in Barca, what a night. |

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
The great thing about Torres is he is almost as fast running with the ball as he is without it. This is a defenders nightmare a striker running at you like that.

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
If we manage to sign Quaresma or Mancini... then we'll have great pace coming from all avenues with Pennant, Mancini/Quaresma, Voronin, and Torres on the pitch.
Overall... We are already a pacier side than last season just because of Voronin/Torres replacing Fowler/Bellamy. |

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
I was flicking through the channels on the radio on Wednesday night and there was an interview with Craig Bellamy on Century Radio. It was really interesting to hear him talk about how he came to sign for us.
He said that he was really happy at Rovers and had offers to join a few different clubs due to "agents being agents and insisting on the 6M contract clause". He had decided to stay at Blackburn because he was playing well and got on well with Mark Hughes and knew all the coaching staff from the Welsh setup. However, Liverpool came in for him and he went and told the manager that he couldn't turn us down. He said that Hughes was fuming and told him that it was the wrong move for him; that he would not play and that he was better where he was etc. Anyway, he talked about meeting Benitez for the first time. He said that he travelled down for a chat and it was the strangest meeting he had ever had because Benitez spent the whole time telling him that he had should be doing this or that better, that he needed to improve so much of his game, that he wouldn't play much, that his idea was to use him as a squad player etc etc" He said that he came out of the meeting wondering if he was really wanted at all. However, he said he had no regrets about joining us because he loves the club so much and it was an honour to play for us and that if Benitez had of only offered him 8 games in the whole season he would have still signed. He said that best manager he has worked under was Bobby Robson at Newcastle because he knew exactly how to treat each player. That he gave the lads loads of confidence by telling them they were world beaters ![]() |

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
He never really lives up to the promise he showed at Blackburn. We should have brought him back to have a motivational one-on-one with JAR ahead of the 2nd leg of the semi though.

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
He wasnt a pointless singing IMO because he didnt cost us money and the same will go for Crouch.
Pointless signings are the obvious ones when we could have bought less and better quality

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
Really dont know why benitez wanted such a trouble maker in the ranks. Everyone could have foreseen there was going to be trouble with him. Had a record at newcastle and the same at blackburn. And sure enough, he had at least one very well publicised incident with us.
Not a top striker, only 10 or 12 goals a season in him. Glad we got rid.

Re: BELLAMY ...VIEWS
Not good enough but I like him. I wish him well, I think he's a decent lad, he just has a bit of a temper!
