Who's this Dave Usher fella then?

....

Wolves chief receives Reds backingMay 29 2007

By Paul Berry, Birmingham Mail

WOLVES fans have good reason to be excited about Steve Morgan's impending £30million - that's the view from their Liverpool counterparts.

And that's even with Morgan's mixed reputation on Merseyside due to the rumour mill suggesting he wanted Liverpool to ground-share with Everton if he'd been successful in moving in at Anfield.

Dave Usher runs the Liverpool fanzine and website, 'The Liverpool Way'.
And while he understandably admits last week's news of Morgan's deal to buy Wolves slipped under the radar of many Reds fans' due to the Champions League final, he believes it will be a positive for Wolves.

"I was over in Athens when the news came through, and with Liverpool fans thinking about that game this hasn't caused much of a stir," said Usher. "But from a Wolves point of view I would certainly say that Steve Morgan loves his football.

"He's certainly not taking over Wolves just to make a quick buck. He's very much a football man, he's been a big supporter of Liverpool going to all the matches.

"He wanted to take over Liverpool but couldn't get in so it seems he's now looked at Wolves and seen an opportunity to get involved and a club with plenty of potential.

"With the sort of investment he can put in, if I was a Wolves fan I can't see any downside.

"It can only be a positive thing, and I am sure he will want to take the club on and move it forward."

Morgan has already met with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, and moves are underfoot to arrange deals which could be rubber-stamped as soon as he takes the helm over the next couple of weeks. And reports in Scunthorpe today suggest Wolves are heading the race to land £2million-rated striker Billy Sharp.

Usher believes Liverpool fans' opinions were split on Wolves' impending owner because he kept a low-profile amid rumours of the possible ground-share.

As Liverpool's third largest shareholder, he tried to buy the club on at least two separate occasions but was blocked by then chairman David Moores.

"Whether the ground-share rumours were right or not, we never really found out," adds Usher. "And that's probably why there was a bit of mistrust and why opinion was mixed.

"Steve wanted in at Liverpool but it was obvious David Moores didn't want him. That's why he used to use the AGM to have a go at him, some people agreed with him and others didn't.

"There was never any groundswell of opinion wanting him to take over but as I say I'm sure Wolves fans have good reason to be excited."

Sounds like some tosser trying to make a name for himself. He'll get found out though. He'll have to go back to the day job, whatever that is, instead of moonlighting as an expert view on Brummie papers.
