Moscow Derby Banner
I'm away and sadly missing Robbie's farewell, but have been fortunate enough to experience CSKA Moscow v Spartak Moscow this weekend, which was quite an experience.
Both clubs are homeless at the moment, with CSKA renting Dynamo Moscows stadium. But due to the state of the pitch and 35000 capacity they took the gamble of switching the fixture to the Luzniki, which has artificial turf and 83000 seats. The snag with that is its also Spartak's temporary home, and as such of the 60000 crowd about 2/3 were Spartak. It finished 1-1 though to make it 15 games unbeaten for CSKA in this fixture.
It was great to see a real game for the fans, with tickets at 6 quid and no corporate shite. Also both sets of fans were bouncing all game with loads of big banners. the only downside was overly aggressive policing, with CSKA fans being kept in for an hour afterwards, despite it being their home game. Despite this fans were then strangely allowed to drink in temporary bars together within 100 yards of the stadium where beer was sold in glasses and bottles.
The best banner of the lot from Spartak's fans was a huge drawing of CSKA's manager, with a slogan underneath that he was gay. The clubs offer assistance with making/displaying the banners and it was all seen as good banter, and what can CSKA fans come up with next time.
It got me thinking, can imahgine the furore if we did a mosaic at the next derby, with a big picture of Moyes and the words "ginger pubes"
