David Villa is a Red

From Sly

Valencia striker David Villa has revealed he would be interested in a move to England if the opportunity arose, with Liverpool his favourite club.

The Spanish international has been continually linked with a move to the Premiership with Chelsea and Liverpool among his suitors.

Villa is one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe after his goalscoring exploits for club and country in the last few years.

Liverpool tried to sign Villa before he joined Valencia and reports suggest they could make a new move for the skilful forward in the summer.

Villa, who says he follows Liverpool because of his friendship with Reds keeper Jose Reina, admits he would consider an offer to play in England.

"I never planned to play in England, but if an offer arrives I'll take a look at it," Villa told Zoo magazine.

"I'm a great follower of football all around the world and I watch lots of games from the Premiership.

"I don't have a favourite English team, but because of my friendships with some of their players, I follow Liverpool most. My favourite player there is my friend Pepe Reina."

Valencia are determined to keep hold of their prized asset and they inserted a buy-out clause of £85million in his contract.

Villa has admitted himself that the price tag on his head is "ludicrous".

"It seems like a ludicrous amount of money! I believe it is too much money," added Villa.

"But football is like that, so we'll have to wait and see what happens. But £70m is insane!"

At the price Chelsea would be the only realistic side capable of buying him funded by Roman Abramovich's millions and Villa is full of admiration for what the Russian billionaire has done at Stamford Bridge.

"Abramovich can spend his own money how he wants.

"He's certainly made Chelsea's fans happier! He's turned them into England's most successful club and I think that he seems like a good person."

Eto'o and Villa in one week, when was the last time the two top strikers in the world bigged up our club?

To be fair I think he meant in the league over the last couple of seasons.

I think he should keep talking about us as much as possible. If he can knock £15m off the fee in one interview I think he should replace Parry never mind being our next striker.

Re: David Villa is a Red

Ladies and Gents, Silly Season is here:

Villa hints at Los Che departure

Valencia striker David Villa has revealed for the first time that he may be on his way out of the Mestalla at the end of the current campaign.

The diminutive Spanish striker has lost faith in Los Che's ability to challenge the top clubs in La Liga and he believes a move away would be beneficial for his career.

Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with Villa, while Tottenham are believed to be the latest club to have shown a strong interest and the player admits he would be willing to discuss a transfer.

Villa told Goal: "I have always listened when there have been offers and I am still determined to do what is best for my career, but of course with the consent of the club as I have a contract.

"I have to think about my future and that is what I am going to do. I will listen to anything, like I always have."

Valencia's struggle on the trophy front this season has affected Villa's form, with the former Real Zaragoza hitman managing to find the net on just eight occasions.

Villa to go up for auction

by Ben Blackmore, 17 March 2008

David Villa has alerted a host of Premier League clubs by revealing he will consider leaving Valencia at the end of the season.

The Spain international has been made to endure a harrowing season at El Mestalla, with club stalwarts Santiago Canizares, David Albelda and Miguel Angulo tossed to the scrap-heap – prompting legal action in the case of Albelda.

Valencia are also nowhere near qualifying for next season’s Champions League, a stage that is made for a man who has scored on his past five visits to Barcelona’s Camp Nou.

Chelsea have been long-term admirers of Villa while Liverpool have often been linked with forming the Spanish dream partnership with Fernando Torres, and now it appears a mega-money auction could kick off after Euro 2008.
"At the moment, I am focused on Valencia and then the European Championships,” stated Villa.

“But when the season ends I will think about my future and listen to all offers.

"I have always decided to do the best thing for me, in consensus with the club because I have a contract."

Villa has netted just eight league goals this season, but he has a record of 48 in 92 league appearances in his Valencia career.

I know it's not quite in the same league, but didn't Hard Work Dirk profess to admiration for a number of Premiership clubs before securing a move to us?

I think it was Newcastle and was made up by a Newcastle website. I may have made that up in my head though.

Re: David Villa is a Red

I'd rather we signed a world class winger.

Not that we could afford him anyway. I don't think you can buy £30m+ players on the never never, so we're fucked.

Newcastle was one of them. Spurs the other.

Both were possibly fabricated/ exaggerated. Dirk doesn't really seem the type to fib or embiggen himself to other fans somehow.
