How rubbish is la liga? Barca are beatable!

How great can a league be when it has Diego Forlan and Freddie Kanoute as prolific goal scorers? And Morientes, Savo Milosevic and our own Sinama Pongolle find scoring goals there easy. All of these punks struggled to score in the Premiership yet they're banging them away in Spain.

We should have no trouble scoring against Barca when we go to the Nou Camp BUT we need to show a willingness to attack, not shamefully hide in our shell as we did when we played them twice before whle Ged was in charge. I reckon Arsenal would have hammered Barca in the final had Lemon not been sent off, considering the number of chances they created so early in the match before their clown 'keeper was red carded.

We just need to be brave, nerveless and not be taken in by the hype of Barca. Hate to say it but we need to be a bit like Chelsea in the way they handled these Catalans.

They drew 1-1 last night that would do me nicely over there. I have to agree with the gist of what you are saying, just having a look at their leading scorers does tell a tale.

I suppose Rushie was rubbish because he flopped in Italy.

The best way to beat Barca is to attack both away and at home. If we sit back we'll get run over.

And one thing is sure. Bellamy has to play because his pace and movement will be decisive.

I watched the Athletico, Barca game last night. I thought it was a great game.

Re: How rubbish is la liga? Barca are beatable!

Totally, totally different leagues and styles of play.
As Plonky said, could you see Stewart or for that matter Bent or Phillips doing it there?

This attitude towards Barca reminds me of how we talked about the mancs last season. If we don't hit top form against them and get some lucky breaks, they will absolutely murder us.

La Liga is far better quality overall than the Premiership.

Re: How rubbish is la liga? Barca are beatable!

I agree its better quality football than the prem. Can you imagine Bolton or Boro over there. They would be murdered every week.

But La Liga teams hate hate hate being hasseled in every tackle. Everton are rubbish but came close to beating a very good spanish side by aggressive play nothing more. To beat them you need aggression and skill.

Spanish teams thrive with time on the ball, take that away and you have a very real chance.

Sitting back with 10 players behind the ball ala Ged's brand of defending is asking for trouble.

Rafa knows what to do, which is more than can ever be said of Ged.

Re: How rubbish is la liga? Barca are beatable!

Barcalona are about as good as mid-nineties Wrexham and Messi is their Mickey Thomas.

That's been proven by doing stuff with litmus paper too, so you can't argue with it.

I agree, if we are not at the top of our game on all levels and they play as they can, they will tear us a new one, anyone who disagrees simply doesn't watch or understand football.

Didn't we do alright when we sat back, a few seasons ago ?

Re: How rubbish is la liga? Barca are beatable!

All will be fine as Daniel Agger will burst the back of the net in the Nou Camp, Momo will keep Ronnie Dingo quiet, and our very own horrible no-necked little troll will scare the shite out of 'em before getting a brace at Anfield. Have faith, as everything will proceed as I have foretold.

Incidentally, I'm not sure how Marcus Stewart would do, but I fancy that Engurland International Michael Ricketts would probably tear La Liga a new one.
