Thumbs up Martin O'Neill

Has been absolute class this week about Liverpool, the way we played etc. I have also heard comments from in the past about us being the "best club in Britain". I know he is ex Forest and a bit of a jack in the box but he is a class bloke - took time off to look after his Cancer suffering wife too.

I've always liked the way he comes across, very intelligent bloke...

I liked these comments today...

Quote:
Martin O'Neill was generous in his praise of Liverpool, after seeing them bring to an end Aston Villa's unbeaten start to the season, with a 3-1 defeat at Anfield.

'I thought they were absolutely splendid,' O'Neill told Sky Sports News.

'We didn't play well and that doesn't help of course, but they were absolutely splendid.

'They knocked it about terrifically and their form at Anfield is absolutely magnificent.

'We could have helped ourselves a bit and we tried to in the second half. We got back into the game 3-1, but in the 90 minutes it was a lesson for us.

'We are aspiring to where Liverpool are, but that will take some time.'

"We have seen a manager who has won the Champions League under pressure this week, it is nonsense.
I couldn't imagine twats like Fergy and Mourinho doing that in defeat.

i'd have him as our manager if rafa left, but his teams play shite football. be interesting to see what he'd do with some better players though.

A danish player, Ulrik Laursen, had O' Neill at Celtic. He said that tactically he was weak, and didn't spend any time on that part of the game. He did say he was a good motivator but he doesn't think highly of him apart from that.

I really like O'Neill, hes a classy man whos always full of praise for us. We wouldn't be making the worst decision in having him as Rafas successor.

He didnt play Laursen much so maybe thats why he is a bit bitter. He got Celtic to the UEFA cup final, the man knows tactics perfectly well.

Re: Martin O'Neill

Raddy at what point did that shite leicester team after O neill took over play shite football? or celtic for that matter? The same team your saying that played shite football absolutely destroyed liverpool at anfield in the uefa cup the year they went onto the final. He built a team around henrik larsson so well they set him up for 50 goals in one year. He made heskey look so good we bought him :/ Anyone that has anything bad to say about anything todo with martin o neil is full of shit period. Won a treble with celtic in his first year and easily created a gap between them and rangers in terms of skill level and lastly anyone that expected Aston Villa todo anywhere near as well as their doing this year..... Your lying.

Destroyed us at Anfield?

What game were you watching?

They got a dodgy freekick, scored from it and then sat back before hitting us for the 2nd. As I recall we gave them a footballing lesson at Parkhead.

I know. But still do you think that his good with tactics? A spirited team can get you very far as Everton finishing fourth and Bolton staying in the league is proof of. And the UEFA Cup isn't exactly loaded with great teams these days.

That said, I've got nothing against O Neill. I'm just not too impressed with his abilities.

If next season Villa finish top 4 and qualify for the following seasons CL then he will have proved himself

Re: Martin O'Neill

Always used to hate him. Until the world cup and this season. Suppose after his absence from football I realised what a decent bloke he actually is.

Although I reserve the right to change my mind if he starts jumping up and down the touchline like a little leprechaun.

Re: Martin O'Neill

Thought his comments yesterday showed some class. Couldn't help thinking he doesn't want to alienate anyone at the club to keep his options open for the future.

One of the few entertaining pundits who actually added something to the world cup coverage.

Re: Martin O'Neill

O'Neill has repeatedly proven himself to be a master manager when it comes to polishing a turd; and yes, I include Celtic in that for a number of reasons, not least the weak nature of the SPL.

The only question mark over him is whether he is capable of managing a team where the money available is greater and the expectations are commensurately greater. And I don't suppose we're going to be able to know the answer to that unless or until he finally takes the reigns at one of the top four in the PL.

In the meantime, all he can do is the best in the situations he finds himself; and on the basis of that, you have to say he's been very good indeed.
