profiteering bastards charging kids to be matchday mascots
heard on 5 live this morning apparently all the premiership clubs bar two charge the parents of the matchday mascot for the pleasure of running out onto the park with the team apart from Manc plc and Liverpool.....making a killing out of some of these kids is typical of the money mad football industry
I realise that some outlay may be needed cost of kit etc ...but there cannot be one club who can`t afford to give these kids a good day out without stinging their parents, some clubs apparently really go to town and the bill for the parents can run into a hundreds.
I wonder if we can find out which club is the meanest and name and shame........wonder what it cost to be a "Bitters" mascot....anyone know???

Re: profiteering bastards charging kids to be matchday mascots
As was pointed out in the other thread about this, £3500 is the price for the corporate mascot, similar to the system Newcastle operate. The £3500 includes an ad in the matchday programme, kit, VIP treatment for 4 people etc.
There's also have a mascot chosen at random from the fanclub who pays nowt, in the traditional way.

If any kid wants to support that load of shite then they've got bigger problems in life than paying £3500 to run out with 11 wankers!

Doesn't matter. It's a fucking disgrace. Mascots were traditionally there to bring luck, not bags of cash. The hypocrisy of the 'people's club' makes me heave.

Re: profiteering bastards charging kids to be matchday mascots
Does anyone know how the Liverpool mascot scheme works? Is it a draw from the kids supporters club (ie, a fluke), or is there a (lengthy) waiting list?

Yeah, I think you're missing the point somewhat. The £3500 covers a whole package including an ad in the programme, hospitality etc of which the picking of a mascot by the corporate sponsor is only a part of. I think it's simplistic and unfair to call it "Everton charge £3500 for kid to be mascot", and really the journalist should have done better research on that piece.

Re: profiteering bastards charging kids to be matchday mascots
no I'm not missing the point. I don't care about corporate sponsorship, it's tying it into the (or even a) mascot I don't like. It's the principle, and what it represents. And it gives me a chance to have a pop at those sad fuckers over the park.

I'm sure they're aware of that, which is why they have another mascot who gets to do it for free.
And whle I'm not particularly keen on such rampant commercialism either, I hardly think we're any to point the finger, given that we put a fucking McDonalds in the Kop, of all things in all places.
And it gives me a chance to have a pop at those sad fuckers over the park.

Well I can certainly sympathise with that, but surely there's enough to laugh at them about without bringing in stuff that isn't really true?

Re: profiteering bastards charging kids to be matchday mascots
What are you thinking of? I brought no untruths in, I said no word of a lie. And the McDonald's installation is hardly comparable. As I said, it's the principle of commercialising a mascot which I don't like. We've always sold food by disreputable organisations. Do you know what goes into a Slayers pastie?
