Anelka a funny thing to say

Is it me, or does anyone else think that Anelka coming out and saying that, he wished he had been at Liverpool for five years and was signing a contract extenssion about now, was a really strange thing to say, when you are on the verge of supposedly signing for Portsmouth.

Not something you would want to here as a Portsmouth fan or could it be a sign to Rafa that im ready to sign and the price is in your range and i love the club

I dont know shit regarding Anelka's plans but it just seems strange anyone else think so

Re: Anelka a funny thing to say

Looks to me like he knows we're after a forward (who doesn't?), saw us linked with Trezeguet, and thought "I'll have some of that" so he said it to try and drum up some interest from Rafa.

Agree with all that you say here but he could have done that through his Agent

True but I'm not sure normal rules apply with Mr Anelka.

I think he's had alot of unfair treatment really. Was his move to Madrid any worse than what Owen did to us ? Or what Viera, Overmarrs or Petit did to Arsenal over the years ?

Remember when he went to Madird they really were the cream of Europe.

So while Im sure some of his rep is true, its also true to say that Houllier made a huge mistake and that in a parrallel universe he owuld have played for 5 years and now be signing an extension (well, actually, he'd probably be threatening to go on a bossie next year if we dont let him go now !).

As for what he said, yep depserate attempt to get us interested, after we had talks (?) with him last winter as alternate target to Moro IIRC. As for should we sign him ? I can think of alot worse, but I can think of some better. If Rafa said yes, Id be happy. Otherwise enjoy Pompey Nico !

I've got no problem with Snelks I said at the time Houllier was wrong to let him go.

I wouldn't want us to sign him for what Pompey are offering though.

Re: Anelka a funny thing to say

Don't see the issue about his comments - Name me one decent player if given the choice between Liverpool and Portsmouth would not choose us... It would be different if he made those comments when on the verge of signing for Man U or Arsenal... but this is Pompey we are talking about...

I'd have him back - If Rafa wanted him, I'm sure we could get him for about £6m which would be money well spent....... Can't see it happening though..

Re: Anelka a funny thing to say

I really like Anelka and for about 8 million he would be a good signing. He really should never have left us but thats a different story. Apparently Fowler has issues with him and I'd rather have a happy Robbie than Anelka. If there was a guarantee of no conflict between the two then we could do a lot worse.

Re: Anelka a funny thing to say

Fowler's issues with him are that he doesn't mix,he disrupts team spirit,he only tries when it suits him,he plays for himself and won't pass to team-mates who are in better positions to score.

Not the most glowing of references.

No - but unless Fowler's lying I wouldn't want Anelka back and I doubt Rafa would touch him with a bargepole.

Didn't Rafa have an interest just before we signed Morientes ?

KG, what Rafa does do is speak to people who know or have played with a player to get the lowdown on them, so to speak.

Re: Anelka a funny thing to say

He's always spoken fondly of Liverpool, and for that I'm greatful to him, and wish him all the best in his endevors, but one wild card per squad is enough. Based on recent history, I'm glad we have Bellemy instead of Anelka.

Re: Anelka a funny thing to say

Tommy Smith & Emlyn Hughes hated each other, but Smithy (I think) said, "once we were over that white line, we were playing for Liverpool, and our personal dislike of each other did not come into it". Am not saying one way or the other about Anelka, but IF Rafa thought he could fit into the team then I'm sure he would be interested.

As a player, I think he's fucking great, but I loathed the way he constantly bed-hopped around clubs. Also, his advisers make McKay look like John the Baptist.

He didn't exactly blow me away when he was here. A talented lad alright but his head is up his arse. Had one great game against Newcastle at Anfield and of course that goal against the shyte

Personally I'd steer well clear but if Mr Benitez wants him I'll trust his judgement.*

I don't remember Owen threatening to go on strike in the middle of his contract and demanding to be sold, maybe I am wrong.

Anelka played quite well in his short spell at LFC while he was trying to earn a contract, but by all accounts him and his advisers are utter gobsh*tes and he has noone to blame but himself for wasting his talent and rotting in less than average teams.
